Not really. However, for most of us “Biofiltration is “Magic”. Either we don’t understand it and compartmentalize it out of everyday conscious thinking and reserve it for when we want to watch Avatar. I prefer my reef listening to the “Blue Danube”.
I went a differrent route than compartmentalize. For me, the beauty of Creation in the World of Neptune has fascinated me to no end. As a yong boy of 10 in Southwest Louisiana, I embraced the Sportsman’s Paradise and all things Cajun. Just ask me about one hero from my youth. Justin Wilson is a Cajun humorist who first caught my attention as a renowned Cajun, celebrity chef, who in my experience is better than Paul Prudome.
During those summers of youth, I hunted & fish and learned the “Ways of Nature”. My father is my first hero. During the Great Deression, my father’s father died when he was in the 6 grade. He quit school and worked in the cotton fields to feed his older sisters and mother. At 12 years old, my father was the “head of the house” during the Great Depression. His first paying job was as a janitor in Sunset Bank & Trust. To compress things, Reader Digest article, “The Golden Rule Banker” outlines this early history of my father. As President of Bank 1 in Lafayette, La my father enjoyed the success of his years of earlier work. One of the “fruits of his labor” was an offshore fishing boat and the free time to enjoy it. During those summers, Dad would take his 6 boys, 200 miles due South to the drop off of the Continental Shelf. As the “seasick baby”, I was given special consideration and always fished from the “production platform”. It was a gift that has influenced me to this day.

When @Randy Holmes-Farley responded to questions on biofiltration, he said, “we sent a man to the moon 50 years ago, yet we still have no real cure for cancer”.
When @Dana Riddle “Advanced Aquaria” 6 part series on Coral Nutrition said, “Photosynthesis couples the inorganic with the organic world”, then he said “carbon dioxide grows coral and DOC grows bacteria, like Cynobacteria”.
When @Paul B says stress kills fish and clams enable auto immune systems to perform. However, Paul makes languinni and drinks red wine. The reef tank gets the “bits & pieces.
Finally, Kudoes to the Marine that wrote “Patience & Persistence” recently on this site. I will take his advice and go fishing to experience the rewards of Patience.
