I was once told that " Blue Ridge " is not a SPS.
But, had no idea where to start this thread.
So, I started it here.

I am wanting to get another Blue Ridge
Traded it off when I went to Zoa/Palys only, and now I regret it.

I really like the Structure of the Blue Ridge.
But, the color is some what drab.

Is there any Blue Ridge out there that is not the Reddish Brown ?

Gave away a nice piece a while back. A reefer friend of mine gave me a chunk and her's is growing up the glass and showing why it's called "Blue Ridge". Under rated SPS IMHO.

I think it's actually classified as a softie(?).

you have all seen it if you have ever been in a full service fish store, look at the decorative coral, the one that is blueish/slate colored is the skeleton of a blue ridge coral.

I have one and think they are very neat, just due to the structural variety they add in an sps tank

I cant imagine though, that it would be considered a softy, it's an sps in my eyes, and any time i see it on pricelists it is also sps

The structural variety is what I like, there is no other Coral like it.

Heliopora coerulea, or "Blue Ridge" coral is in fact an octocoral (soft coral) believe it or not... the name comes from the blue hues on the skeleton (occasionally seen a bit in the polyps) thats due to the high iron content of the "skeleton" it lays down. I've seen them while diving many times, and in LFS, and they'll range from brown to reddish to brown/blue, but for the most part look very similar. I have kept it in the past, but do not currently have any.
