It's possible that I have a marine infection
Backstory: I busted up my knuckles on my heavy bag. No biggie. Obviously My tank responsibilities never stop. I never give a second thought to putting my hands in my fish tank. Tried gloves twice But honestly I just cannot complete 70% of the things I need to do while wearing gloves. So it's pointless. I've gotten some stings and a few rashes but nothing serious. Also I am a man So my hands get bumps and bruises all the time. half the time I don't even know where the cuts came from. Never worried about that either

The event: Yesterday I was doing some tank maintenance as I do every day. In the process of doing something one of my frog spawns happen to be against a cut I had from the heavy bag. At this point the cut was 9 days old and healing fine. All of a sudden I noticed a stinging sensation like somebody was poking it with a needle. I pulled my hand away it went away and everything seemed fine.

The situation: Thinking about it, my hand was a bit itchy when I went to bed last night but that didn't occur to me until today. After my shower this morning I noticed that my hand was very itchy and warm.Upon examining it, I could see that it was red on half of my hand and swollen. It has not seem to get any worse throughout the day however it has not gotten better either. Still swollen warm and itchy. No pain. So I guess we will see

Personally I would seek medical help from my family physician. I would explain exactly what happened. Nematocysts and Cnidocytes in open wounds can cause life threatening infections. Better safe than sorry man!

You need to take this with the utmost seriousness Wiz.

Circle the area or areas with a pen or sharpe. If the redness increases out of the outline, go to the ER, ask to speak with an infectious disease MD.
If you develop a fever, increased pain, drainage or swelling follow the same advise as above.

Good luck and I hope it's just irritation vs infection.

I appreciate that. But I've never done doctors unless in pain. Just who I am. Could just be a bigger sting reaction because it was on a cut. Not too worried yet

If you start getting red streaks moving up your hand and arm from the wound I would hurry myself to the emergency room, that is a sign that a severe infection is moving through your body.

Sorry to hear that. I've had experiences with the same sort of stuff and mine have always went away on their own. Granted the smart thing would be to see a doctor. I question it all the time now that the wife marathon watches Monster Inside Me or whatever that show is called.

I promise to monitor closely and go if necessary. And I do have it traced. :-)

That show is awesome! Lol

Update, the redness warmth and itching are all but gone. The swelling is still there but appears to be going down. I think I'll be okay. I am sticking with the opinion that it was just a stronger reaction because of the sting directly to a cut. Lack of Skin Barrier.

Put some superglue on it and move on lol :-) I use superglue on most all wounds...... Unless you see bone lol then superglue and duct tape

New here, but my husband is in the "I survived necrotizing cellulitis" club. Only reason we went to the ER is because hubby couldn't ignore septic shock. Keep an eye out!!

New are not experience and advice is always treasure here. Thank you and I will

I have had To do a little more aquascaping over the past couple of days. This is what it looks like when that same Coral Sting's me but not in a cut. No biggie right. Localized rash and a little bit of scratching for a couple of days.It just must have been a worse reaction because of the cut

On a side note, my orange and green chalice cut my finger when I brushed against that. Didn't realize chalices were so sharp LOL
