Yup. Others tried after I posted that with the same result. Slow flow and huge reactor = dead ostreopsis for me.

You want the largest UV unit you can fit and afford. The effectiveness of UV is based on the strength of the bulb, the contact time of the water to the bulb, and the clarity of the water. The small turbo twist units are worthless IMO due to the contact time of the water to the bulb. You would need to slow the water flow WAY down to increase contact time, which means it will never keep up with the demand of the tank. I am using a 40W Lifegard unit which stands almost 4' tall. I run mine with an adjustable pump so I can control the water flow.

I have a 120 gallon and have beaten back dinos with the same UV unit @Velcro is using. Mine went online two weeks ago and I haven't seen any trace of dinos in about 10 days. My tank is as healthy as it's been in over a year. Are they completely gone? I don't know but I'm not willing at this point to turn the UV unit off to find out.

I have the same unit as @Velcro, I leave mine on 24/7. At least for now. Mines been running for a little over 2 weeks so I want to make sure that I have the dinos under control. Even though they're no longer visible in my tank, I'm sure they're still there in the form of cysts. At some point I might try running it only after lights out when the dinos move back to the water column.

If it helps, I have a 60watts UV 24x7 since the tank day1. Only stopped for bulb change. Dinis appear first tank days and gone without notice. Also never had a fish disease.

Ah, I see. Is it plumbed in-line with your return pump or do you have a separate pump for it. I'm really thinking about investing in one of these things if it means I won't have to worry about dinos in the future.

I'm still running it above the display using its own small pump. I finally have some free time this weekend so I will move it behind the sump and have the pump drawing from the first compartment of the sump.
