Whether you like it or not, you/we all are! LOL. This is what I always tell people, completely unfamiliar with the hobby when the subject of what I do for a living comes up.

After a brief explanation, coral farm, saltwater, funny names blah blah blah. I just proclaim "it's a super nerdy niche".

And it really is, no matter how "cool" you think you are, if you are a reef hobbyist you are pretty much forced to be a nerd on numerous subjects including but not limited to:

• Marine biology
• microbiology
• chemistry
• Water filtration
• nutrition
• Plumbing
• Electric
• Minor carpentry even
• economics
• perhaps a little bit of marketing

And there's way more. What am I forgetting?

I research most everything before I buy. Vacuums, yes, appliances, yes, truck parts, yes. Basically most things that are not food or clothing gets researched. So naturally, everything aquarium related is big research before I buy.

I'm ok with that.
