Its a weird question and cant find the answer

Ok i have a QT/frag tank that ive been running for a while. Its a cycled tank with dry rock. Its been running for almost 3 months.

We had a tank have a fluke outbreak and this last survivor (firefish). Its been in this tank for almost 80 days.

Now i want to put this fish in my DT in the upcoming weeks and started today adding coral to DT. I want to take everything out of it basically.

Can i keep a tank running fishless with nothing in it but dry rock as a “just in case” tank? Or is that stupid?

Yes you can. Just do water changes with it using water from dt. Most of the time these end up as reefs.

Agree. Lots of people have empty ‘just in case’ spare tanks or QTs ready at a moment’s notice. (Some times I keep one fish in there for some visual interest— like the World’s Most BORING Fish— a Pajama Cardinal.)
