Hey Everyone,

We haven't spent lot of time showing off inventory lately, but every once in a while, it's nice to see some of the corals that are exciting to us, so I'll share them with you.

Over the past months, we've been acquiring and propagating some amazing Acanthastrea. There are a LOT of Acans coming into the U.S. market of late, which is nice to see. We've made a concerted effort to propagate a wide variety of different color morphs, so that our customers can have many to choose from. They all be offered as two-polyp frags, and will be priced according to scarcity and color, of course. We have done the best to keep prices fair and reasonable, ranging from $38 to $108. Some will be quite limited.

Like everything else we offer, these Acans will be debuting when they are healthy and ready, according to our own exacting standards. We're targeting the middle of next week as the release date. Unfortunately, we will not be doing any special cuts on these corals, as we are trying to distribute them as widely as possible, while still preserving our parent colonies.

Here are shots of some of the Acans that we'll be offering next week, to get your mouth watering. We've named them for reference on our site, but they are all Acanthastrea lordhowensis at the end of the day!

LOL, Darwin...

Glad everyone is liking these...We figure that if we do a good job at propagating them and holding the line on pricing, we can give as many people as possible a chance at getting their hands on a wider variety of quality Aussie Acans. With consistency and quality as our primary focus, there should not be a need to charge stratospheric prices for one and two polyp frags of most of these corals. Our goal is to charge fair prices for corals of this caliber.

We have dozens of other color varieties that we are working with right now, and we'll be releasing them as they are available as well. There are also a few colonies that we just couldn't bear to frag, and we'll be offering them for sale on a limited basis.

Should be a good fall/early winter for Acan lovers! Stay tuned for other surprises coming up from UC in the next week or so! This is one of the best times of year for reef keeping!

Loving those Supernaturals in particular.

I'm a little leery of LPS at the moment, though. I'm beginning to think my lighting is too strong. Maybe if I acclimate them very slowly...? Debating on whether I should pick up a stick or two to test out how my tank keeps them, but I suspect the lighting is the only part suitable for them (especially since I'm low-tech and the tank is young), so I could use some input? I'm thinking a relatively cheap and common stick frag couldn't hurt too much to try...?

No matter which I pick, it'll be a few months before I can get another coral, though. First on the list is getting a nasty aiptasia takeover under control (working on sourcing some affordable berghia now); then I have to get in some mechanical filtration. I'm hoping to find a way to get a refugium under my stand (with a filter sock) and afford a siphon overflow since I can't drill my tank. If not I'll get a bunch of macro for the DT, and make do with an HOB like I was doing in the 20g.

Hang in there! Lighting is only part of the equation with Acans, but they seem to fare a lot better under more moderate lighting. Other factors, such as temperature, water movement, etc. come into play with these corals. Regardless, they are surprisingly durable when acclimated carefully to new environments.

Okay, thanks. :)
The acan I had before was doing fine in the 20...then I moved to a new house and put it in the 50 and it died. Thinking I made a couple of acclimation mistakes and that it might have gotten into a fight with my goni in transport (which is likewise in terrible shape...I don't expect it to last much longer.) :/

One mistake was sharply extending the photoperiod. I thought I could get away with it if I moved it out of direct light a little. Apparently not. I also had a horrible phosphate spike from leaching rock and sand (never reuse from a neglected tank....), around 7 or 11. Can't remember which.
