...because we're moving into a much bigger place. Going from a 2-bedroom apartment to a 4-bedroom house with a big backyard. Oh, and the tank will be set up again as quickly as possible. I am hoping to do some better things with the setup this time around. For one thing, I'll be removing the sump from the stand for easier access. Got a few other upgrades planned too...

what are your plans for transporting your live stock? or are you starting all from scratch?

i live in an apartment as well, which is why i went with a 40b- but don’t know how to go about when i move out or obtain a bigger tank.

I'm moving across town, so I'm planning to move all the live stock. Essentially, I'll be setting up a holding tank for a few days while I get everything moved over and the main tank gets set up again. I'll probably either do bags or 5-gallon buckets for the drive over.

This has got to be the ideal time for a monster tank upgrade Daniel!?

how are you going to keep the temperature adequate during the drive in the buckets? keeping it inside the car with the heat/AC set to the desired temp?

Haha! I'm hoping that will happen eventually. I need to talk my wife into it. She has already agreed that when we buy a house, I can go BIG! However, we're not buying this one... :( It's a great deal on a rental though and a solid move for our family. I do think we'll be buying within a year...hopefully. If I have my way, we'll be building a home within a year and it will include a nice setup with a fishroom.

Right now, all rubbermaid tubs are on sale at TSC. I highly suggest getting them now lol. From 50 gallon to 300 gallon. 100 gallon and above have bulkheads pre installed, so you can use that to link them or circulate the water.

It's only about a 15-minute drive, so I'm not too worried. Here in SoCal we're still at 80-90 degrees during the day, so the ambient temp in the car should be fine for them for the short drive over.

I did once move a 75g reef from Virginia to Ohio...I will NEVER attempt something like that again. That was a whole lotta buckets with heaters and air stones and a whole lotta stress that I don't ever need again.

Thanks! I'll check that out!
Congratulations! I still remember when we moved from a 2 bedroom apartment to a 4 bedroom home. Room to grow!
Thanks!! We're super excited! It's a really good move for our family. Kids are getting bigger and will be needing their own rooms pretty soon, and this makes that possible.

this is my fear! i don’t want to upgrade too soon to then move out and potentially go across state lines.

Yeah, when I moved from Ohio to Cali, I rehomed all my live stock except my 2 clownfish. A buddy of mine kept those for me and shipped them to me once the tank was set up. It was a much better decision. :-)

I'm almost positive that reefing guidlines require a bigger tank when moving to a bigger residence, but I believe adding more tanks can be used as a substitution.

Any chance you might be able to setup a bigger/dream aquarium in the new house before the move and then transfer everything over later?

Just thinking/living vicariously through you!

Oh believe me! This is kind of the "compromise" I'm aiming for.

But but but...you just stocked up on frags!

You are a braver man than I. Huge challenge.
I decided to break mine down and sell off as much as I could. Between the challenge of just moving the tank and moving the rest of the house, it would have been tough.
Gave me a chance to completely start over with new tank, equipment and livestock.
No regrets yet.
Congrats on the new house and best of luck to you and the move.

I KNOW! The box from TCK literally just got here today (about 50 minutes ago to be exact), and I'm terrified I'm going to lose some of these. That's the scariest part of all this. At least we're not moving until the 1st, so I'll have some time to get them settled a bit before moving them to the new place.

We actually found out about the house being available after the live sale. LOL "Perfect" timing! Haha!
