ITS GONE......BUT IS IT STILL IN THERE?

i recently had a pair of my favourite yellow foxface in the whole world that i have had for 4 years pass away due to velvet and whie spot about a monthish ago....along with two other beautiful fish... Now here's the question.... i did do hypo salinity in my display tank ( 6 foot ) which had only been set up for around 7 months after upgrading from my old established 4 foot. after hypo and a moth later no sign of any disease water clear parameters perfect and coral growing and multiplying fast like normal (coral and inverts were removed during hypo) is there STILL a chane there is white spot in the tank... the fish had been in there the whole time.....if you need more info just ask any hlp would be great thanks

I think for the tank to be fully rid of ich it needs to run fallow for 72 days. This is the life cycle of the parasite. To my knowledge that is the best way.

I would wait until you get to 76 days of no fish in that system as there is a chance it hasn't gone away

ich can go away in about a month to 41 days, marine velvet can last way longer as it can use photosynthesis for a short time...

Signs and symptoms do not matter with ICH as it can remain undetected in the gills. Fish can also develop somewhat of an immunity to ICH which makes breakouts near invisible at times.

Get the fish out, tank transfer them all, and leave the DT fallow for 70+ plus days. 76 days is the new fallow period for worst case.

Velvet cant be killed by hyposalinity. It can even affect freshwater fish too if that gives any idea of its adaptability to wide salinity ranges.

You probably don't have ich in your system if you kept it at proper hypo levels. I haven't seen any evidence that hypo works on velvet. If you lost your fish to velvet than it is likely still in the tank. The good news is that you only need to keep your tank fallow for 6 weeks to get rid of velvet.

It's been mentioned, and I agree, that hypo won't kill velvet and is iffy on ick since there are some strains that are hypo resistant and it's difficult to pull it off correctly. Going fallow is the guaranteed way to get rid of both ick and velvet in the tank (be sure not to cross contaminate with any other tanks).
