It's Just a Tank

Was this prompted by something
I see it posted over and over again. I want to scream! All of my ribbons, 3/3 we're very clean. The food goes down in a few gulps. Ribbons don't have the power to tear food apart. They need food to be a proper slender fish size. Or they give up trying to get it down.

Tangs, wrasses, clown fish, triggers, and puffer now we're talking messy!

You get the idea.

I really had no idea my solorensis would get this mean. I was feeding earlier today and he burst from hiding, attacked my hand, got his food and went back to happy.

Might just be mine. I'd ask the other wrassers how they feel about solorensis.

Hawkfish for certain can get very territorial. I've been there.

Yeah the thing about eels being messy eaters is weird. They eat their food whole? That’s like the opposite of messy.
Was this prompted by something? I have a guess of who but I won’t say.
My mom had a Snowflake Eel. It used to gulp goldfish and then spit out the scales.

Goldfish scales, they aren't that soft. A lot of fish do that with those. Oscars, lionfish, puffers. I got told ages ago "no more goldfish" by an actual local reefer who knew what he was talking about. We switched to mollyfish and guppies.

Yeah. Too much thiaminese in goldfish. Causes liver failure I think. My eels eat everyhting hole and when bits do come off my other fish eat them.

That's what I figured but it was sure fun to watch the eel and grouper hit the goldfish and see scales go flying everywhere. I was a 15 year old boy at the time so things like that were cool and exciting!

Honestly don't know that I've changed over the last 25+ years.

We have gained a to of information in 40 years of saltwater keeping. I never know when new information is going to surface.

Bigger eels are messy. They can dismember their prey
Yes, it's amazing to watch!

You're welcome.

I just realized that Goaway is Mibu.

Hey girl, what’s up? ;)
Fish drama, new family member expected, eventually.

Nice thing is, after chasi g the solorensis, clown tang took that as an "target acquired" so.. that works in my favor.

How are you doing?

was Mibu; she has grown since then. :D
I kinda miss the name. Oh well... this one works better.

LFS tried really hard to get me to take their green wolf. Absolutely not. She was visibly tracking the fish in other tanks. Beautiful, and obviously very intelligent, but no way.

I’ve never understood why anyone would keep those. It’s a dottyback with all the aggression but big and ugly. Either get a real eel or a normal and pretty dottyback.

I very much prefer my ribbon eels. They have all behaved in the tank and I even still have my fire goby. I highly doubt even a snowflake would let me keep him.

Your lfs sounds like a bunch of wrasses. :(

I think they ordered it for someone who bailed.. She was like 15 inches long already. I got the impression she was a long term resident

I am still on a waiting list for another blue ribbon eel at my lfs, unless he doesn't think I am serious. Going to visit again this weekend and find out.

Going to rehome clown tang and the solar wrasse. It has to happen. Another ribbon eel will replace the nitrate/phosphate demands on the tank. I'll get another tunnel set up.

My LFS always has a few ribbons. I don’t know how they sell that many. I am tempted but after failing with a ghost I’m not sure I have the time or aquarium for a ribbon.

I still worry about cyanide catching with them.

I seen a few cases on here that are heart breaking. They are that fish that hits with a "spur of the moment". Someone see's how pretty they are and $$$. They put it in a tank with other fish before the eel even eats and it all goes downhill from there. They might try again, but hopefully not before more research.

I am sure many lfs bank on lack of knowledge.

Never kept a ghost, they are bigger bodied. But, I seen them in better shape and most ate at the stores vs the rhinomuraena quaesita (ribbon eel)
