ITS NOT A SAND BOTTOM AND IT'S NOT A BARE BOTTOM

My buddy took silicone and trawled it on to the bottom of his 150. Then poured sand over the wet silicone. When the silicone dried be poured out the rest of the sand. Now he has no sand bed and it's not bare bottom. It looks like it's going to work. Wouldn't work for my wrass's what do you think about this
 
No pic sorry wasn't thinking. It is up and running. And it looks pretty good I might see him in a week I'll get a pic then.
I would think that much silicone would cause a problem. If this works I might try It
