I've got EGG's!!!! Maroon clowns laid eggs finally

Hey guy's, I've had a pair of gold band maroon clowns for a few years now and lately I have noticed the male consistently staying in the back corner of the tank at the bottom of the corner overflow...Well tonight I got curious since I had a feeling that my GIANT female and him must have finally spawned and that was his reason for not leaving that spot other than to dart out for a second to grab a few pellets and then going back to his spot


Well tonight I sat down with a flashlight and I can clearly see somewhere between 400-600 eggs and they ARE fertile as I can clearly see the little eye spot on the egg's and can see the spots moving around as he fans them to push new water over them


I'm thinking that this is NOT there first spawn, I just think it's the first one that I happened to notice LOL


So since I obviously have no chance of raising the babies since I dont have ANYTHING setup to raise them in, nor do I have any type of food for the babies like phyto or rotifers "I suppose I could use a dry food like the stuff from sustainable aquatics" I am curious if anyone thinks I should setup something like a 10 gallon and move my pair into the tank and just keep something like a clay flowerpot and a tile in the tank in order to give them a spot to lay eggs next time, or do you guy's think that it would be a better idea to put a clay pot or tile in the main tank in the spot where they laid egg's this time and typically hang out at and just move the tile/pot into the 10 gallon tank if/when they lay egg's again?


I would LOVE to try my hand at raising/breeding clowns, not so much to make a profit but I would like to be able to atleast say that I raised these fish myself, and who knows maybe I will get some cool morphs or something from the clutch because my female gold band is a misbar in the sense that her middle gold band stops halway down


Just looking for everyones ideas/opinions from people who have down this before

Unfortunately the spot they laid eggs is almost impossible to get ANY type of picture, its a 65 gallon RR tank that has the corner overflow and its setup as a FOWLR and they laid the eggs and the bottom corner of the overflow on the bottom right side so between where they laid the eggs and they way the rock is stacked in the tank I cant get a picture since you have to look across the from of the tank in order to even see the eggs or the spot they laid them

Lol just for me to see the egg's I had to take a net and keep pushing my fat pig of a sailfin tang out of the way because he is such a PIG he thinks your going to feed him anytime you get near the tank, I mean he's such a fatso he swims INTO the net just because he thinks that means ill feed him HAHAHA

Ive had to catch him twice when I was doing something to the tank and literally all I had to do was put the net in the tank, he would swim in and I would lift the net out...No chasing the fish around the tank or nothing LOL, it's actually pretty funny

Funny you say that cause I am actually getting the lifeproof case for my phone but not until Dec for my B-day
When this batch is done I am going to put a tile in the back corner that i can remove from the tank to transfer the eggs since I think it would be less stress on the pair than moving them to a new tank to breed would be, plus its 1 less tank i have to setup since i wouldnt need a tank for the babies AND a tank for the parents

well i have a pair of clowns the male is a tomato clown and the female is a cinnamon clown and they bread and i have a beautiful clutch of baby mixed clowns which i raised...my suggestion would be leave them where they are buy a pot or a pcv t-tube like a 3" t-tube and put it in there when they lay the eggs put the tube in a container with water, now by that time you should have set up a 10 gallon with the same water the the clowns are in from the main tank with an air stone with minimal bubble movement cause you dont want a tsunami going in the tank lol. buy rotifers and get a culture going and when they hatch they will be in the ten gallon and all you do is feed them rotifers for 3 months then after that you could feed them baby brine shrimp not frozen a newly hatched batch of baby brines

I had a thought "tell me if this is a good idea or not" that I would set the baby rearing tank up next to the main tank that the parents are in and setup a aqulifter pump to continually pump water from the baby tank back into the display tank and from the display tank into the baby tank

That way they are raised in the same water as the parents as well as having a constant water change done on the tank...Would that be a good idea or do you think I would be better off having the baby rearing tank as a stand alone and just doing daily water changes to keep the water in top notch shape?
Also I was going to buy 1 of those sponge filters that is powered by an airpump and have it seeded in the main tank and then setting it up in the baby tank once the babies are at a large enough size that I can safely install it in the tank

Just curious as to which would be the best way to do things as this will be my first, Now I obviously DONT expect to get it right the first time "or even the 2nd time for that matter"
