who uses these bulbs and what do u think of them? i am thinking of purchasing them for my 50gal breeder. i now have 20k xms. will they still give good color. i currently have mostly softies, but am thinking about starting to do sps. i would like good color and moderate growth. i know these will give good growth but not sure about color. any other bulb options you guys feel would help let me know. thanks.

I have them on my tank. They are bright and I have had great growth. The color is more of a White/yellow on my e-ballast. I had XM 15k's and personal liked them much more. I think it depend on the coral as far as the color you will have. My biggest complaint is some of my leathers went from a light green to a off white color.

Growth is great! Better than my 250 watt XM 20K or the 250 watt Hamilton 14K by a long shot.

I use the M57 ballast with the Iwasaki... it runs closer to spec with the magnetic vs the electronic ballasts. However, it still needs mild actinic supplementation to look its best.

Well there will be an increase in light (par) so try to start them higher above or use the screen diffuser method to decrease the initial light increase, your softies may not like the sudden change.

I run them on icecaps in lumenarc mini's and the color is just clean. I have one over my 30 breeder with sps's and one over the 75 with lps's. The par is supposed to be close to a 250. If you want a bluer look you will have to supplement prolly best with T5's so you can get a color blend you will like. The best bang for the buck I think for 175 SE. When I redo my system I will run these with T5 supplementation. I saw them on a system when I was in Pittsburgh picking up another light for a friend and bought them (reflectors, ballasts) on the spot off his SPS tank. Would not give up the bulbs so I bought new.

Lights are tricky to recommend because it boils down to personal preference and what you are ultimately trying to achieve and keep. You have to find a balance that will satisfy the end goal. There are so many choices and combo's you can run. I do not think there is one be all end all bulb. I still hem and haw over what I would like. I have friends that are die hard T5 nuts and would talk you down from halides and friends that go the other way. Best is to see them for yourself on someone's system. I bought a few other kind of MH bulbs to mess with off ebay that someone else did not like and only ran for a short while. I also like the look of hamilton 20k's but they are no where near as bright. Hope some of this babbling helps.
