Hey guys. I finally got my new tank setup and running yesterday. I seem to being having an issue with my return pump. It sporadically goes off with for no known reason to me. It is hooked up to my Apex, but it is only programmed to shut off when in feed mode, along with everything else. Any ideas?

I wont tell you how many Jaebo's I have been through but, I will say they are not the most reliable pump. Typically they start failing around a year. If this is your main return I suggest you keep a spare pump just in case.

Can you post the program for the pump outlet?

I have not had any trouble with my DC return, than gosh, but the powerheads last only months for me. I keep a spare of everything. Sounds like a short in the cord to me.

when it shuts off, is there power to its controller? does it stay off or just power cycle?

I have a DC6000 that has performed flawlessly for about 18 months. plus a pair of original WP40 that ive had since they launched at Fish street. I have yet to have a single issue with any.

If the controller is still on but the pump is not running, my guess it is you may have a faulty controller for it. you may also need to look at the Power supply for it as well.

The controller is on, yes.

Sounds like a controller going out on you then. that is my best guess. Cool part is they are controllable via a 0-5v signal.

The controller they use provides a constant 24 volts to the Pump I believe. there is a third signaling wire in which a 0-5v DV signal is sent to the pump to tell it how fast to turn. at 5v it is full power. I wanted to use a WP40 controller with mine but they said the amperage thru it was too great. All of the DCxxxx pumps use the same controller.

Adding a module to your Apex could allow for this control, but I dont have an Apex so I cannot be 100 % sure on that matter. I run a Reefkeeper Archon and now that I have been talking to you, i may see if I can make a cable for mine. BUT, you will lose the soft start that their controller provides.

Google around and you may be able to find a replacement controller or the Apex module.
