January Meeting

Location has been posted,(Derek posted his address on this thread) but the time has not been confirmed. What time Derek? 1-2pm is usually what we do.

good call. Hey are we going to do "bring your water to get tested"? If we do, it would be cool maybe to have a prize for whoever has the best water parameters. This way it can push everyone to bring their water. I just think the best way to promote a club is to make sure we help everyone get their water quality/parameters in check. This will help prevent people from getting out due to killing fish, frags, etc. I know there are things we just can't help, but at least we can eliminate bad water parameters.

So the idea is bring your water, we test it for Alk, Cal, Mg, Phosphate, Potassium and then provide a plan of attack for each person to get their parameters in check.

Doh. I haven't been able to run my skimmer for 2 weeks because I am treating for flukes. I bet my nitrates are up.

Mind bringing the PAR meter? I am interested to see what my RO water is reading at. Think my filters may need to be changed soon.

We should probably test our fish urine as well. I think my Tang has been snorting the sand. I dont want any addict fish in my tank. Haha. But seriously Im def in for bringing a water sample. If there is a prize I will just mix up some fresh salt water so I can WIN!! J/K

That's a whole lot of testing going on. I think I have 2 and sometimes 3 different test kits for each parameter mentioned by all different companies...not that I think about that, I realize how rediculous that is....I guess you could say im paranoid. :D

That may be a hard one to call, As every tank is different and what works for one may not be ideal for another! Maybe a good prize would be some new tests for the worst water that shows up??

contest is good, atleast would should have a better turn out than (bring a coral for Mels microscope and look for bugs contest)

so what exactly is good water params, salinity=1.022-1.026, PH=7.8-8.3, ALK=7-11dKH, nitrates=0, amm=0, calc xx-450, potassium=?, Mag=1300-xx.... just some examples ive thrown out there, i believe this is how the contest should work.... for people bringing water samples, they are all tested, if the water sample falls within whatever range is specified for every test, that members name will go into a bucket and we will then draw for a prize. i could be wrong but i do not believe there is a way to say one individual has the best water as everyone runs there system at different levels, for example, some run their Alk at 7.5 DKH and others at 9, which one is better? they both are good.

please throw out other contest options, opinions, addtions, etc..... so we can wrap up how this will work....

Oh Yeah, if you fail any parameters, you will be shunned to the corner for remainder of meeting.... just kidding, your test results will be discussed and you will be sent home with homework on how to correct the issues. then maybe we can re test your water at the feb meeting and see the results....

ok, i think this is my longest (non sale) thread...
