Jar Tank

It just arrived.

Awesome!!! Looking forward to seeing pictures!

The first time I saw one of those tiny long lenses for a phone was many years ago while I was sitting in a cafe in Beijing and it blew my mind. Now they are inexpensive and readily available.

Serious about this Jar tank :)

It sounds like you need to pull out the phosphates until the algae recedes. Do you know what species of algae is problematic?

Ok I might try that. Unless your fooling me again.

If you want to add active filtration to the jar tank then there are several ways to make a micro DIY filter. For example, if you use a small container like a film canister or pill bottle, fill about 1/4 of the container with activated carbon and other 3/4 with filter floss then drill a series of holes in the top and or sides and insert a air hose powered by an air pump down into one of the holes then you just made a tiny DIY filter. I have also used a short span of small PVC pipe with an PVC elbow at the bottom filled with similar material and the air line. If you have a 6" section of hard airline attached to the end of the standard 1/4" flexible air line it is easier to insert and remove.

Is it supposed to go in the tank?

Is it supposed to go in the tank?

Lol. I guess I didn't describe that part very well!

Yes, the filter goes in the tank/jar. The DIY design that I was attempting to describe is based on an old school corner filter but modified to take up a much smaller space.

That is a problem there is little to no room in the jar for a filter.

I understand and I am not suggesting that you have to add active filtration. However, if you want to add filtration then you can do it with something as small as 1/2” pvc pipe or something similar to a film canister. Either way, you have a great project!

Thanks. I will see what I can do for filtration.

I have macro lense pictures. I added snails to help with the algae.

This is the kind of algae that is a problem.
