not planning to, but someone said i can cut them the same way u could cut bounce shrooms, while someone else said you will kill it if u cut it. just wondering which is true.

also on a side note, just picked up about a 2-2.5" jb for 200$. definitely feel as if i got a steal. does their care differ from a bounce shroom? i have 2 wwc bounce shrooms on the bottom of my tank in low flow, wondering if i had to do anything dofferently. TIA !!!

Years ago I put a blue mushroom in my blender then just dumped it back in my tank. About 5 weeks later they were everywhere in my tank.

Im sure it's possible to try and slice it down the middle. Although I wouldn't. When it gets bigger it will move and drop lots of babies.

i have heard some try using a rubber band. the pressure of the rubber band wrapped around the shroom will slowly cut it in half.
Really no different than cutting it.

I actually have a buddy that cut 2 of them a while ago, he uses a razor blade and cut them into 4 pieces and then he put them in the bottom in a plastic critter keeper. Everything went fine. They anchored down to the substrate in about a month. He then Glued the substrate to frag plugs, that's where things got dicey. He stopped baby sitting them, at that point some fell off and got lost in the tank, I think 1 for sure died. It's been about 6-8 months now and he has 4 that are doing really well. They all look normal and healthy.
For 200 I wouldn't have hesitated lol that's a great deal man! Good luck if you decide to, I know it can be done. I'll see if I can get some pictures of the frags to post up for you.

Ditto this, also ensure that all 4 quarters have a piece of the mouth...
I've heard it aids in healing, but then again I've heard of people blending their shrooms too so your choices are varied

I heard the same thing, and I have cut some mushrooms into many pieces In the past, never had a problem. But what I did notice about my buddies jawbreakers, is that they are taking a lot longer to grow then mushrooms I personally have cut. In the end I don't think I have the guts to cut a jawbreaker lol, but I do know for a fact it is possible.

A better question is, can you just cut a tiny piece of the foot and have it become a baby? Or does the foot have to already form a mouth before it detaches?

Sure you can cut a mushroom coral. Its just theirs a possible risk of an infection. If that outways the benefits then shoot for the moon! I personally dont, because they get very very small after cutting and eventually regret doing so. Beside, jawbreakers drop babys the quickest ive seen out of all the "high end" shrooms. Imo i would leave it, if its streching a foot, then help it with a razor =) youll be doing it a favor.

In theory any piece cut has potential to recolonize into a full fledge mushroom. When I cut other mushrooms off a rock. I just cut the cap and dice it up. Then A couple days later I will slice the stem down to the rock long ways. So the stem will grow 2 caps back. Plus the frags the original cap will create. I have also cut mushrooms on frag plugs, and I cut the entire plug into 2 so my mushroom always is connected to something, most my loss when I cut is from losing them in the tank do to current. Some melt, but most get misplaced, when I moved my rock to a new tank last year I found a bunch of mushrooms that kinda gathered In the same area in between the rock, my theory is that was the dead spots that my mp40s didn't get so my cuttings collected there.

Can't agree more! I should have mentioned that, all the mushrooms I cut I have had in my system for 6 months or longer, newer mushrooms tend to be the ones that melt when u cut them, mainly because it's not use to your water parameters or various disease that exists there. Best to wait a good while before you attempt it. And practice on some your other mushrooms before you attempt to cut up your awesome ones.
