So I have these mushrooms but I'm not exactly sure the difference between Jawbreakers and Tie Dyes.

Thanks

Who did you get these from? In the Bay Area, we refer to them as Jawbreakers and same as TieDye for certain lineage. Yours looks like the TieDye/Jawbreaker lineage.

I got one from this guy in San Jose (Milpitas) for $50 . His name is Dr. Lee or at least that's what I addressed him. Now I have about 30-40 sitting around my tank and the mother won't stop having babies .

I've never done shipping before so it would have to be pick up or meet up. I wouldn't trust myself on shipping yet haha.

Dr. Lee???? Did he have his own store? Is it called aquatic gallery? I thought that place was closed down.

It's hard to tell from some of the pics & also I'm on my phone looking at this. Doesn't seem right that you got it so cheap & also doesn't seem right that you have so many already. The tie dye/jawbreaker is supposed to be a slow grower

Yup that guy. Nah his store is opened some days. Back when his store was open he sold one to my dad. Now he has like a warehouse where he's trying to rebuild a store. They take forever to grow from a tiny shroom to a big shroom but the mother shroom keeps moving around and leaving babies behind.

I mean it's cool if you don't think its a tie dye/ jawbreaker. I'm just getting into coral myself and learning everyday.

some of them have green streaks on it but not a lot. I've been waiting for the green for forever!

Ive had the colony for a few years now. and i have 3 white babies right now. the mom just moved in the last month

Did you ever see the mother that produced your polyp? If you get green, it's very distinct, there's no doubt when it starts to come in. If your green starts to come in, you have the original TieDye/Jawbreaker from 7 years ago. If not, you have one of the other lineage. Also, how large is your mother? Usually the original lineage easily gets to 3"-4" size in a few years and in another few year, it can grow to 5"-6". Other lineages will only stay no more than 3" across and only have red added to the neon orange.

No I didn't see the mother that produced my polyp, but the mother that I have has green on it.. quite a few actually. It's a very big red colored mushroom probably 5-6".

I would say that your mother is from the original lineage 7 years ago. The only thing unusual is that it drops so many babies. Only one of the reefer that purchased a frag from me said that his frag dropped 10 babies after the first year, but I haven't seen a photo yet.

Your dad must have been a really good friend of Dr. Le to buy at $50 a few years ago from him. As a few years ago, locally they were going for about $225. We've given polyps away free to relatives, but as slow growing as these guys are, everyone pays. LoL No one has ever paid as much from us as what we paid for our first polyp, which was $250 local pickup for a pencil eraser tip size with no color, more like a brownish red.
