"jawbreaker" type discoma - zoas causing splotches?

I may find out on this is as I have a zoa colony in which a shroom has attached. The shroom hides some of the zoas when it opens. Let's see if it changes color. It is bright red (solid) right now. That would be cool if it morphed into a jawbreaker type coloration!

Very interesting read.. Thx! I just bought the first shroom you pictured in the Orange/Green section. Rice and Beans for a while after that purchase

I justify it by telling myself it'll pay for itself after a baby or 2.. lol. I'm hoping the secondary colors continue to develop. I also have one from kmailtl but it's only about quarter sized and hasn't developed secondary colors yet.

hey guys, got a wild yellow jawbreaker, and a "orange" version w/ a green speck today. unfortunately the jawbreaker came loose from its rubble in transit, and had brown gooey slime coming from its base. it's still looking like its oozing brown slime from the bottom, but wanted to get this photo to show that the bit of rubble it came on had...zoas.

this is the "orange" one...at least, that's what i thought it was going to be. under my lights it's more gold. i think this one's a different mushroom type based on the "bumps" on it.

Yeah. I agree. I talked to the seller last night and there was a mixup with my order. This isn't the one I was supposed to get and he apologized. Will be getting the correct one with the orange base soon.

Just a thought. What actually Is the pigment coloring of coral? If the coloring were something from a symbiotic relation with an algae or other plant living with the cells in the coral, then perhaps couldn't the algae or other plant living in one coral possibly transfer it pigment by consuming it or naturally grafting? If so, then that symbiotic algae /plant could pass down to future offspring if the coral were reproducing by nonsexual means.

Could it be that the orange with green splotchs mushrooms get the color yellow after a wile like on this pic? Found this pic online.

yes - this is precisely my line of thought. to me, i would expect any babies of an original mushroom like these which has gained color by zoa contact, to be genetically included in what is passed down from the parent. this is why i had asked rich if the babies he has seen w/ no zoa contact showing multiple color specs were descendants of a parent which already had these colors. i still suspect that the genetics to develop spots/stripes/patches/whatever, must have come from a parent that had taken on these colors...probably because of contact with zoas or some other donating neighboring coral.
