So I come down the stairs this morning and I see my jaw fish in a hole up against the end of my peninsula. He’s been living in a couple of burrows under my rocks that he made since I got him. Is this normal behavior? He looks and acts fine. Thanks

Jawfish are weird, especially once they settle in. I have a different species but he does that and also likes to sit on top of corals or just lay out in the open. I’d say it’s not anything to worry about, just make sure he looks ok and isn’t being bullied.

Something may have booted him out from under the rocks- big bristleworms, another fish? My experience has been when they make a sand pit like this it isn’t stable, and it will move on. How about if you place some small kiwi fruit sized rocks over some deep sand elsewhere and see if it moves? Also, be sure the fish’s caudal fin isn’t eroded.

Make sure you have a tight fitting lid. They jump. They work at getting out of a tank.

He also needs some small rubble and shells to make a home with.

He looks fine and is breathing fine. I fed the tank this morning and he ate. I did notice a couple days ago he had a couple of snail shells in his borough maybe he does need more rubble. The tanks only three months old so I don’t think I have bristle worms or anything that would bother him started with a dry rock. Right now I only have a flame angel a citron Gobi and 2 Purple file fish so far so I don’t think he’s getting bullied. I do have a lid. Maybe he just wanted a summer home. LOL Thanks for the quick responses appreciate it.
