Jawfish QT sand or no sand?

I have read not to put sand or live rock in your QT, but for a fish like the Jawfish they seem to really do better with sand. I will be getting 2 Jawfish this Tuesday and I set up a 10G QT a couple weeks ago. I have live rock in there now to kind of seed the tank and was planning on removing it come quarantine time. Now, the 2 fish will have been in coppersafe and Nitrofuracin Green For about a week before I receive them. So my question is... Should I call that good and put some sand in the QT, leave the live rock and just observe for a few weeks or remove it all and do treatment like any fish you’d get online?

you are getting fish with specialized needs, so you need to break the rules. When they are out of QT, toss that sand as it may absorb those chemicals. But while there, give them at least 3-4" of sand ... and not fine sand... like argonite crushed coral

I QT'd one without sand, and despite having a decent lid, it panic'd overnight and jumped. The fact that it did so with the lid tells me it made multiple attempts... Break the rules, use sand. I've heard alot of people will use a small-ish tupperware container, and fill that with sand, rather than building a whole bed.

they stress easily and to relax takeup Olympic-level carpet surfing....

cool idea to contain that sand! Though, it may spend its day spitting it over side so you spend your evenings putting sand back in container... jawfish training human <wink> still, if I had one needing QT, I'd try it

why not get them a tube to hide in?

There is tubes in there. But I have read a lot that they don’t really take to the tubes and instead stress out in a corner of the QT

These guys need sand for sure. I’ve tried the sand in a Tupperware in the corner with no luck. Go full sand bed. Break the rules. If you do medicate, toss substrate when done.

I have a bluespotted jawfish. Hate to admit it but I don't have a QT. Based on my guy I would for sure put sand in the QT. If you don't want to stress it out out sand. My guy renovates every night and he loves the sand!!!
You want to make them as happy as possible when adding to tank.
I setup a tube and a spot for him when I released him into my tank and now he lives exactly where I want him. Right in front so I can him everyday!
