Jay's 150 Reef

Thank you very much.. the canopy sitting a little low still but I will get that.. plumbing issue first thing to deal with.. leaks like mad with what they sent.

I will say after months of debate and back and forth, I'm happy with the route I took.
Doh! I hate leaks...well, I hate plumbing in general (probably mostly because I spend so much time scratching my head. LOL). That is definitely a top priority though.

I can't wait to see you get it up and running! I'll keep following along. :-)

I must be honest, this is my first go at plumbing lol. I've had simple hang on overflows or hang on back filter/ canister filter setups. I'm a bit nervous on how this is going to go.

I also need to figure out where to use unions vs glue everything. I have a feeling this gonna take some serious thought.

I just did my first hard plumbing on my new build. Prior to this one, all I'd ever done was use flex hosing. It definitely took some planning. I also highly recommend getting a pvc pipe cutter it saved me TONS of time and they're pretty cheap.

You wouldn't mind posting a pic of your finished plumb job would ya? What type of overflow did you go with. Herbie vs Dorso?

following............considering the SCA 112 or 150 in the spring. really like a 60" length.

I am very happy with the size. I'm pretty sure I'm going to have to get under the house to beef up the floor though.

I will say the plumbing was left to be desired.. I'd be up and running but I'm throwing the provided plumbing out the window. I'm kind of at a halt due to plumbing planning (doing pvc), I need to purchase a gate valve and I need to know what lengths to cut pipes for the Herbie style as I am not going with the provided Durso method.

I also need to find clear Reef safe pvc primer and glue.

Other than all this, I'm right on schedule.

You can use the PVC primer and glue they sell at Lowe's and home depot, once it's dry there won't be an issue, as far as the height for your Herbie, that depends on your overflow and how far you want the water height within the overflow. Plumbing it won't be too hard.

Nothing like having an aquarium delivered to your house in an 18 wheeler. Got mine last month. Take your time on your plumbing and plan for a number of trips to the local hardware store. :) Note: They make clear PVC primer, so you don't have to use the purple stuff - which can make any job look messy when it runs everywhere. Following along...

I had seen where someone was saying if it doesn't say for <something I couldn't make out, potted maybe?> water, then don't use it.

As far as herbie overflow plumbing, I've read where people suggest 1 inch below overflow teeth but .5 is preferred.. my issue is my return T may not let me get there.. This is all at a glance though, I need to really get in there and measure..

Also, id like to do the red PVC from BRS. But if I go that route, I need to be sure the size of pipe I need. The pipe provided all say 25mm, which is right at 1", but when I measure I'm getting 1.5" so there is some confusion there.

SCA-302 that came with the PNP package.

Ive used the stuff from lowes for years, no issues.

If it was me, Id ditch the pipe they provided and switch to all sizes you can get here in the states, non metric. If you post some pics I can help you better. They do make metric to US conversion fittings also. You could convert at the first point where the plumbing they provided stops.

My update is I bought 4 gen 4 xr15 pros, a reeflink and an mp40. (The exciting half of the update)

The negative side of the update is I am dealing with constant cloudy water that will not clear up.

I am running skimmer and doing water changes but it is not helping.

Looks good. Maybe you need Carbon to clear up the water.

I'm probably getting the SCA 150. :)
