Here's my jbj 30 rimless
Lighting - hydra 52 ( 8am - 3:30 pm) 30 minute ramp time.
Ato - aqua smart ato
Mod - replaced the stock power heads with a rio 1100 and split the line.

25lbs if live rock

Live stock

10 - 15 hermit crabs
1 blue velvet damsel who is a killer. Victims 2 other blue velvet damsel and three peppermint shrimp and one clown.
Coral - one polyp

I had more however I'm recovering from a total crash. New to salt water. Made a few mistakes and given wrong info by lfs. I've learned the hard way sad to say.

My old setup

The funny thing is after hours and hours of messing with it. I just give up. However I have realized that what I'm doing is trying to compare my setup with pictures of others tanks that are much bigger then mine. And I know I'll won't be able to get mine to look like someone who has like a 180 when I have a 30 not possible in my mind.

This is my first saltwater tank I figured I'd make the leap from fresh to salt and start with a small tank and work my way up. Don't want to get to carried away without getting comfortable in this hobby. Meaning you don't want to drop tons of money until after you have the hang of things

really nice looking scape. Tank looks really nice! are you planning on getting the damsel out of there? I think I would make that a priority.

Yes I'm will be getting the killer damsel out of there. I'm just waiting for the tank to finish cycling. It's just about there but up and running for about two or three months. Not sure what to really get for fish. Everything I want is rated for bigger tanks

Nice tank... Great job on the rocks too.

We have same tank...I took the 1 basket from right side(face it) move it to the left side (double up) .

PVC pipe and egg crate stand, live rock rubble, calurpa(mini fuge).

A mini GFO reactor, auto smart T/O...

Kessill A350W light, 4 stunner strips.

You can....put in , so small goby's, dwarf angels, fire fish , warrsse, , yellow rose goby, ...lots of small stuff out there..

Thanks on the rocks. Really nice to know I am doing something right so far. I'll keep that in mind about small fish when I go to stock it which I an doing slowly. I also still need to get a skimmer. That's my next step

If I may say, your money is better spent elsewhere.....>fish<

I bought the Hydor Nano skimmer cuz they said "oh yes this is perfect"

It never worked right from day one....now it sits in closet...$120.00 lost.

Hydor was no help either, just "well it should work fine"

Doing weekly WC...will do you just fine and help it more.

I do 10g WC every week and it is looking, growing nicely.

I don't like the HOB type cuz I like a clean uncluttered look on my tanks.

I only have the mini GFO reactor and that's looks fine.

Nice. I have been doing weekly wc 5 gallons however this week I skipped it. But I noticed I have green bubble algae growing on one piece of my live rock. I do still plan to get a refugium soon. I need to get the money first. Then I also am going to get a eshopp hob skimmer. I'm going at this slowly. I don't like wasting money. Which I why I research a lot of things always thinking of new ways to improve things in my tanks. I also have freshwater tanks to. I don't have anything fancy the only thing I really have dropped a lot of money on is the lighting on all my tanks.

Would anybody be willing to get me some ideas for a ato reservoir. I know it has to be food safe. I was using a 7 gallon jug that I picked up from Wal-Mart but that just looked ugly sitting on the side if my stand. I can't fit it under the stands either cause of middle shelf. Something affordable would be nice.

How do you feel going black sand route? I have an itch to start a new tank with black sand?

I love the black sand look maybe it's cause it's different but you really don't see a lot of debris that you would normally see in white sand.

The sand is a personal choice. I like the dark colors cause as I get more and more corals and with my hydra 52 the colors will pop against the black sand as well. Which was the main reason I got the black sand.

I have a jbj 30 rimless as I posted in this thread and I am thinking about upgrading my set up to a 90 gallon with 40 breeder sump and would like to flip my 30 rimless into a frag tank. Is this possible or what do I need to do to make this work.
