What a shock when I saw that Drs. Foster and Smith were shuttering up. :-(. I really have appreciated their products and services over the year. To be honest, their association is why I felt comfortable ordering from Live Aquaria because of their top notch customer service. They are totally a company that supports the customer to the best of their ability.


Bob is definitely emphasizing many of the stand setup strategies that are repeated on the forum. The braces are good for a peace of mind for holding something that is so heavy. They're not cheap stands, but of course everything has a limited life.
Also, make sure to use the mat that comes with the tank. I remember initially thinking it was packing material, but I am glad to know that item is in place for the tank.

I currently have an Aquamaxx HOB skimmer on my NanoCube 28, which I could reuse on the new tank, but I'm trying to find a skimmer that will fit in the 65g sump so the aquarium can be placed closer to the wall - do you happen to know what skimmers would fit in the sump?

Please be [beneficial inverts] eggs. But if it's not, better to know now. Sorry the candy cane was upset because I was trying to see what they are.

I have the Tunze Comline 9004 that just fits into one of the sump compartments on the 45 gallon. You're getting the 65 gallon, correct? How heavy do you think your bio load will be?

I expect to have a moderate bio-load, here's what's in my current NanoCube 28g:

• Two clowns
• one six line wrasse (may re-home)
• one lawn mower blenny (may re-home)
• one yellow assessor
• one cleaner shrimp
• two pistol shrimp
• one emerald crab

I may re-home the six line wrasse (he bullies the assessor something terrible) and the lawnmower blenny (bullies any other algae eating beastie, yet himself does little to clean the algae in the tank). I do hope to add a few new fish to add interest - I'm considering a yellow tang to assist with the algae, but understand there are "tang police" rules that I will need to become familiar with

I have similar white things growing on top of coraline algae in my NanoCube 28g on the back of the tank, but not sure what they are. As far as I can see, they are not causing any trouble...

Thank you, all! After having the item to google, these are most likely spirorbid worms (phew). Honestly I learned about horrors I never even knew while trying Google to try to find out what these are. So it's time to watch those nutrients, potentially up the CUC if they stick around, and consider changing foods if they explode?

This looks like an exciting transition for the fish you have, and a great adventure in the hobby! You'll just have to eventually plan on upgrading to the 110+ gallon from the 2 x 65 gallons once that tang gets big enough, right ? Thank you for sharing the link!

Sorry this week was busy again. And soon, I may have to alter my water change schedule due to work requirements. Last weekend we picked up a larger Royal Gramma from Vivid Aquariums in the area, which is a beautiful store. The spouse wanted the gramma in the tank immediately, which has been done with a lot of monitoring confused.This week, we moved a few more corals from the QT to the DT because it was time. This includes a few corals that would love the extra prime light (which has been amazing, thank you, all, for the recommendation). The ZOAs have loved the new prime light. Acclimation will be done on 02/28 (remember that the AI app has an acclimation built in, and for me it was been great).

Wednesday's stats:
Ca: 490 ppm
Alk: 9.2 dKH
Phosphate: 0.06 ppm
Nitrate: 10 ppm
pH: 8.20
Mg: > 1600 ppm (Live Aquaria Salt and Red Sea Test--Any idea why this level has always been so high?)
Salinity: 1.0225 sg
Temp: 77

Added more Alk during this time. The other half was trying to extract a mushroom coral that fell into the rocks, and the goby has been displaced from his home. He's nervous and will no longer

Saturday's Stats:

I dosed more Alk and Ca. I'm still trying to get a grasp of what is going to be the correct dose. The Blastomussa is currently having a few mini-heads below its rim, we are having a few potential signs of thriving coral (and a small frag that is potentially unhappy), and the green hair algae is going away. I'll try to get a few photos of corals as I can.

The correct dose is what you decide what you want to go by. Now saying that I’m going to probably get flamed.
But what I mean is this.
Are you going to keep a
SPS tank, a LPS tank, a Mixed reef tank?
Deciding that what chemicals are you going to use
For example I’m using all Red Sea Products
So I follow the Red Sea recipe ( it actually called that) I have a mixed reef
So I dose according to the specifications to that

No worries, I didn't make it clear enough--seems to be a brain to keyboard issue. I am also following the Red Sea Mixed Reef Recipe, so I am trying to raise the KH to 11.5 dKH (albeit slowly). I'm still trying to figure out the depletion rate of the KH to likely add a little bit every day or other day rather than having this issue where I am fighting to get above 10.5.

Interestingly enough, my Ca and Mg are doing well enough from the salt mix so far, so I haven't had to dose any Mg and very little Ca. This is the first week I really opened the bottle of Ca and dropped in any bit more than 10 mLs.

I know the Red Sea products are expensive, but it is nice as a beginner to just be able to take the reading from the test, look on the back of the bottle and then add in that amount (after doing a volume conversion--I teach this stuff to students and techs all the time, and I'm glad I have a good real world example!).

So you take your readings daily for a week or two, don’t add anything once you see that they have stabilize then you raise it to what Red Sea wants then you test again once you have it where you need it then your good
