JBJ 45 Skimmer placement Tunze 9004

I am redoing my JBJ 45 currently and after taking apart my Tunze 9004 DC, it made me rethink placement. The skimmer chamber in the JBJ 45 is chamber two which has water flowing upwards from the filter sock area and then overflowing into the middle return chamber. However, the Tunze 9004 is a surface skimmer whereby water will come in through the teeth at the bottom of the skimmer cup, be sucked down the front of the skimmer through a channel before being entering the main chamber. Any water is ultimately expelled at the bottom through a grate. With this format, would you really be getting the most amount out of your skimmer due to the turnover or would it be better to put the skimmer in the first overflow chamber?

Alternatively, would a different skimmer that drew water from the base versus the surface be better?

IMHO, with a small skimmer like the Tunze (I have one in a 16g RFA breeding tank) taking water off the surface is better.

I have been looking at this skimmer. What is the size ? I have a flex 32.5 limited space in the center about 5 inches long by 3.5 wide.
Does anyone put it in the DT ?

I would google it for the exact dimensions. I don’t like the look of it in the DT so I personally wouldn’t. I got better performance out of it when cleaning it more regularly as well.
