Recently purchased a jbj 45 rimless. Any recommendations on what I would need additional for my first saltwater setup?

inTank or similar media basket to replace the craptastic ones that come with it. I also added two IM spinstreams to replace the return nozzles for a more random flow. I'm guessing you're not asking about basic stuff like a heater, powerheads, and a skimmer? To be specific though, people will want to know what you plan on having in the tank...

Hey thanks. Specifically I am looking for filtration upgrades. I primary will keep clownfish community. I am a first time reefer looking for pointers

I know this sounds stupid since we are on a "reef" board, but will you be keeping corals as well?

Ah... I would suggest a skimmer then. If you don't mind a bigger hang on back model that breaks the clean look of these tanks, I've had great luck with the Aquamaxx HOB-1 (the HOBXC is rated up to 90 gallons but is even larger) and the Tunze 9004 fits nicely inside one of the overflows for a very clean look, but doesn't seem to work nearly as well in my experience. The larger inTank media baskets are much better than the stock ones and well worth the money if you are not a do-it-yourself type. Anyway, post what you decide on and let others know how it goes!

I have a JBJ 45 as well , it s been 3 weeks of cycle ,I recently added 2 chromies ,so far so good , I added a eshopps nano skimmer , tunze ato , 1 wavemaker (I m adding one more for more flow behind rocks ) and I also ordered 2 intank media baskets 14" height 4" depth 4" width , (still waiting for them ) one of them is for a refugium with some ceramic biomedia balls , also still thinking about adding a carbon reactor or a biopellets not sure yet ... I hope all this equipments adding to that little sump keep water clean ,also water changes periodically .... I ll post pics when I set everything up ...

Thanks! Still in the process of making decisions on what I will get for my mini sump. This is very helpful. Look forward to the photos

I recently went to my local reef shop and they recommended against a skimmer. Suggested more frequent water changes work best. Any thoughts?

I have tunze 9004 works great , I placed it right in between return pumps ,but I also do 5g water change every week ...

I have the hydor slim skim. Fits alright and I think it works pretty well.

+1 on the tunze. Just make sure you have a Ato if you're keeping it in the return section

Here is a video from Marine Depot on Upgrade Options for the JBJ-45. I came across it when researching the JBJ, but I ended up just getting a 60 gallon cube. . I LOVE the JBJ though, might end up with one in the future. Have fun!

I went with a Waveline dc2500 pump to get rid of the two smaller pumps ( 660 GPH) as suggested. I added a coralvue icecap Pk50 skimmer. The skimmer is different as I also added a trigger system crystal cube sump inside the stand so the skimmer went there. I have a Tunze overflow providing my down flow although I don't think I have enough full to my return pump as the water level in my return section gets lower than the pump
But I like what I've done please look at my videos
