Question for any of you with the JBJ AIO tanks.
My 45 has been up and running about 2 months now- in the far left chamber I have an inTank media basket with floss on top, far right I have the small inTank basket with just floss and a Tunze skimmer in the chamber over.
The running water into the left chamber is really loud. Do I just need to increase my water levels more? It's the only thing about this tank that is driving me a little mad.
Thanks!

Yup slowly increase water level until the trickle sound disappears and then adjust skimmer and ATO.

Is the water level really supposed to be that high? I had mine set higher, but the innermost baffles were 3 inches under the water, so I figured that was way too much.

I've also struggled with skimmer placement and filter sock or filter floss use... still not convinced on my setup.

i have really struggled with the protein skimmer on this tank- debating removing it all together at this point. It is too loud and the water level fluctuates too much for me. I do not have ATO which I know could help.

Use a huge pore sponge on the top of the media basket on the backside of the overflow. Not looking to filter anything with it just change the water flow. Took the socks out for media cups with matrix. Always run without a skimmer. I put a line from my rodi straight to the tank with a super basic float valve.

just put more floss in so the water doesnt have to fall as far to make impact. my water only falls about 1/2 inch if that, after changing out my old mag drive this is the quietest tank ive ever had.

check my build thread out.

I would recommend an HOB skimmer. I put an aquamaxx 1.5 hob on my jbj 28 and it runs like a champ. It keeps it's own water level so fluctuations in the back chamber don't affect it.

Just need to make sure your hood will clear it when open.

The ATO is definitely worth the money imo. I got one pretty quickly after realizing how much it fluctuates during winter. I got an Ice Cap for about $110, but wished I had sprung for the Tunze.

My biggest problem is getting consistent skimming from my Tunze 9004... not sure if it's the filter socks or placement preventing it.

I was actually thinking that myself and was ordering some stuff from Amazon to give it a try. I was just going to use some coarse filter sponge on top to see if it made a difference.

I love my 28g JBJ!

I have my water level about 3” below the baffles. No skimmer. Filter sponge, then Purigen+media pure spheres, then matrix and phosguard in the bottom basket. I also hang a bag of carbon above one of the pumps.

only “issue” is that I have to keep the media clean, or it restricts flow and water builds up in the center chamber, causing the water level to artificially drop in the outer chambers where my ATO sensors are.

I have the 45 flat panel, so for me it was more a matter of aesthetic. The hob they show in the Marine Depot upgrade video defeated the point of having an AIO for me.

The Tunze 9004 is recommended pretty often for the 45 FP. I just haven't gotten consistent skimming out of it. One day it's great, then the next it's back to very fine bubbles and nothing even close to going into the cup.
