Got my 28gallon jbj pro led set up, super excited about having led for first time because no heat from lights
However with the 2 return pumps skimmer and a power head it runs 83 degrees. Any ideas besides a $375 chiller?

I never had an issue with mine running too warm. I keep the temp. In the house between 70-72. I did notice a slight rise in the temp. when I replaced the stock pumps with maxi jet 1200s. I also have two power heads inside the tank and my temp. stays between 77-78.8. I've had mine for over almost two years now. If you need any tips let me know. I've adjusted quite a few things on mine. Good luck!

Guaranteed with a closed hood on that tank your temp will be at least 79 if your ambient room temp is 74 or above.

Thanks guys, maybe my stock pumps run warmer than a maxi jet 1200 would? My house temp is around 74 and I am running a aquamaxx hob 1 and a small rio power head along with the two stock return pumps, no heater cut the light cycle down to decrease heat but still can't get it below 82

I do know that the stock pumps that come with the tank aren't that great. The impellers on mine went about two months ago and I couldn't find replacements for them. That's why I have maxi jets now. The temp stayed cooler IMO with the stock pumps but they didn't nearly produced the flow that the maxi jets do. Your room temp. I'm sure is increasing your temp. by at least 2-3 degrees. Question for you, what do you plan on keeping in your tank?

Mixed reef, corals mainly lps and soft corals as well as some clowns and bubble tip anemone
I am gonna try one maxi jet teed to reduce the heat

What is your home temp? I am running my jbj nano at 77* this winter. I remember summer time it getting quite warm, but never over 82* if I remember correctly.

Hey Benny
Home temp is 74 doesn't make sense that the tank is 8-9 degrees hotter than home temp with no heater , lights only change the temp by 1-1.5 degrees it's got to be the 4 pumps

It's always something in this hobby, now I need a chiller, this summer we keep our thermostat at 76-78 then my tank would potentially be 86-88 degrees that's way to hot, I was hoping my thermometer was off but I double checked with a digital food therm and it's correct

I will say if the temp. in my house gets warm, the temp in my tank will push near 80 until I turn the ac on. So, yes the temp in your tank will go past the temp in your room when everything is added together. The reasons I asked what corals you plan on keeping is because the lights for the Jbj advanced led are super bright. The daytime lights are all white and can't be dimmed. That was the first issue I noticed with my tank. I started keeping my dawn/dusk lights on with the daytime lights and that helped a little with coral color. Certain softies did not bleach, but SPS and LPS did for the most part. Just giving you a heads up.
