I contacted JBJ direct (310-672-0480) and ordered two replacement temperature probes for $21.49 each plus $8 USPS shipping for a little over $50. I thought I paid $20 each last time but it has been a couple of years so the price may have increased.
I asked them directly about any schedule to replace them and was told there was none, they should last for years but will ultimately fail from being under water. I have 12 of the JBJ controllers purchased over the last 6-7 years and I lose maybe one probe a year although maybe that will increase over time.
I think I got one off eBay once for $15 so you might set up a notification search there as well...............
