Im gonna be posting updates to a second JD that I recent acquired.

After thorough research, I’m fairly confident about the lineage of my other JD.

I’ve seen pictures of the original colony, in any case, just wanted to post updates to this frag I got recently from Law Office, who got it from Thinh Vu

The frag had been moved a few times to shows, between tanks, etc. so it was looking a little beat up when I first got it.

You don't see a difference between the two in terms of structure?

Some of the original frags had way higher coralites densities than some of the colonies I see today

But let’s please not get into a debate about it, I don’t want the thread to get locked again :)

I meant that to mean since you have two pieces in your possession now, does one look different than the other, not to provoke you and make it seem like I know anything about the JD. I'm not questioning the first one, as I don't even own them, but there was so much debate in your other thread I wanted to see if you feel any different now that you have a second piece.

The new piece hasn’t had a chance to really grow yet so not sure.

I did find it interesting in finding the original colony picture from 2014 that the colony showed both the longer low coralites density smooth structure, and high density coralites. It led me to conclude that both came from the same colony?

I’m not sure at this point, will just let both grow over time and see how they progress :)

This is also a very old picture

I guess if you only report back every few months or so, we'll know the new piece does indeed grow a lot slower. Good luck!

I’ve spoken to several of those who own the smoother looking piece. It doesn’t grow at a snails pace. And this piece came from The same colony so perhaps things just grow faster in my tank! Lol

It is sitting 6 inches below water right below 250 watt metal halide, 4x80 watt t5 and reef brites.

Par is around 550-700 peak

that's alot of light! You're probably right about your light helping it grow quickly.

I don’t know much about the JD either but it looks like the new one is already encrusting and growing after only 27 days. I bet we’ll know pretty quick.
