so I bought this pump less than a year ago and I love the feed option as I feel i'm not loseing food down the sump
so the problem i'm having is it's starting to not want to start back up......
any ideas???? does it even after I clean it..

These pumps have a "soft" start, meaning they slowly ramp up to speed. Is this what you're noticing or not starting at all?

not starting at all...... I have stuck my finger in it afew times and turned it to start it.....

Have you pulled the impeller out and inspected it for damage? Other than that I'm not too sure what the problem may be. Wish I could be of more help.

yea... don't see anything wrong with it.... I just took it apart tonight and cleaned it, plugged it in and it wouldn't start back up.... stuck my finger in it and turned the impeller and got it to start back up....

I think this was a pretty common problem with the original dc pumps from them and coralvue. Due to the soft start feature it means that not a lot of torque is applied to the impeller which means even the slightest thing jammed in there could cause it not to rotate. Very regular cleaning is nessesary to avoid this.

Give it a very good vinegar bath and get way down into the pump where the impeller goes with a brush and make sure its spotless.

Great.......... Okay I will do that I just cleaned it last night but I can't get to the bushing under the impeller so I will try that with the vinegar thank you for your help!! ;)

Late reply but I just wanted to share I had the same problem with this pump. It worked great for about 3 years until it started to have this same problem. The idea about the soft start being the culprit actually makes a ton of sense. I cleaned mine multiple times with vinegar and hot water and it still didn't have the power to start back up from a stop. This was one of the old original D.C. 6000 pumps but I think they changed them. I just bought a new one from Amazon and it looks almost identical but there are a few noticeable differences I haven't had the chance to test it out but if they were smart they would have done away with the whole soft start (even though it was pretty cool) I might use this pump for my salt water mixing station or a return pump for my display depending on how well it works as an external pump. I was also considering the new dct line from jeabo they seem to have perfected the return pump with better control and standard size fitting adapters.

thanks.
I still have the pump in the pump in the garage...
am thinking bout buying a new controller to see if it'll run.....

oh n yes late reply.... lol :D

Or if you're feeling cheeky just buy a new pump from Amazon and send back the old one.... you didn't hear that from me though. It's wrong.

lol the thought crossed my mind :)
only difference would be is it's the older style n I would buy the newer version....

Almost sounds like the lower start rpm part of the motor is going out. I just got the dct12000 that thing is awesome. Got mine off ebay for 80 bucks
