so i'm in the market for a controllable wave maker/powerhead and Jebao has good reviews according to many members on this forum relative to functionality and price. i went to fish-street.com and tried to decide which one i should go with, here's my dilemma:

what is the difference between

Jebao FS8000/FS14000
vs
Jebao WP25/WP40

other than the amount of water that one powerhead and move.

i have the wp40 on my 120gal reef and it has crazy power but I do not like the fact that I don't have one on each side making flow from both ends. Not sure what the fs1400 I'd but if it comes 2heads if go w that one. Flow from both directions is very beneficial for your coral. 2 of the wp40's would be way to much flow in my tank

The FS series pumps are meant to be used as return/closed loop pumps. The WP series pumps are what you are looking for.

could you elaborate on the closed/return loop pumps? last time I check the return pumps are nothing but pumps that pump the water from the sump to the main display tank through the drains

You want 2 wp25

yes, in terms of turn over ratio, i expect myself needing two of the wp25. i just didn't know what the difference between the WP25 and the FS8000 considering both have the same amount of turn-over ratio and i'm hoping someone can shed light on the difference between the WP series and the FS series.

no the FS1400 is justa redesign of the WP40..they tried to make it a little quieter and changed the overall look a tad. it might be due to the fact that the old ones looked so much like a tunze and they made some exterior change to make it not have any issues.

My mistake you're right jonreefer. FS series are just slightly updated in terms of design and have some added rubber to cancel out noise better.

I just assumed it was the name for their DC return pumps, sorry.

I might be off regarding a closed loop vs open loop, but the basic concept is you use a return pump to have several returns throughout the tank to help with water movement vs having power heads like a jebao, koralia, vortech, etc. While you're at it you could add a device like a SCWD or Oceans Motion to create alternating patterns of flow.

so WPs are louder than FS? if so, how much louder? How loud are the WPs in general?

just out of curiosity, is there a reason why the FS series are less known to the public? and it seems the only way to get the FS series are through fish-street

my WP25 can hardly be heard. in a room that is silent you actually have to listen for it to run. the sound of a skimmer is louder I think

what about when it's switching mode from one to another? i can hear my Koralia whenever it speeds up or ramp down. there's a click for the Koralia whenever it switches speed.

I switched from the koralias, which were very noisey when used with a wavemaker controller, to 2 wp25's, which, like someone already said, you have to strain to hear. My skimmer is definitely louder than my wp25's! I would not put Koralia s on a controller unless you wanted to drive yourself and your fish crazy!

this is precisely the reason why I'm jumping the ship. just want to do my research before pulling the trigger

when its ramping from stop to full power its still very quiet and if someone talking at a very low voice near you would drown it out. there is no clicking sound from start and stop. I cant even tell when it actually makes the start and stop i can just hear it ramp up and down if I listen very closely.

I can hear my wp25 over my skimmer, but when I turn on the ceiling fan I can't hear either. Just the sound the fan blades hitting air is louder than my tank.

The loudest equipment in my tank is a sicce syncra silent 5.0 if that says anything.
