Jebao, is it really "bad?"

I had a DCP-5000 that stopped working after a year. I purchased another but if I only get a year out this unit as well, I'll look at getting a higher quality pump.

I am a huge fan of Jebao but they are kind of like harbor freight tools. Some are great, some not so much, My HF 4" grinder has been to hell and back.. I was literally using it soo hard it was smoking, I left it in the rain under the deck for like 3 months. Still runs.

The Jebao return pumps are SOLID. So much so that I almost laugh when people just dismiss them and spend 5X as much money on a pump that will last a similar amount of time...or LESS. (cough..spectra..cough)

THAT SAID.. If you are dosing two part, that is a very very very important aspect of your aquarium and you won't notice that it isn't running properly until the damage is done. I have the jebao doser and one of the heads stopped working, luckily I noticed it in time.

If you have a decent amount of money in livestock I would invest in a higher quality doser and use the jebao for additives and what not. I have a bubble magus and it has been great. I bought it used and one of the heads stopped working. I politely emailed bubble magus, they stepped me through some trouble shooting and then sent me a brand new head unit AND a brand new motherboard.

No asking where I got it, no asking for a receipt, they just took care of me!!

had a dp-4, after 7 months malfunctioned and dosed my whole bottle of alk and calc. Lost all my livestock except a couple fish

I wouldn't trust it with something as important as dosing. Jebao is so inconsistent with quality it's not funny.

I’ve used the dp-4 without issue for 2 1/2 years, I have a failsafe on the apex to turn it off if the ph gets out of hand. I have a Jebao return pump going for the same amount of time, and it has been solid

have dp-4 running for almost 3 years now. never had any issue. using 3 out of 4 channels.
when I bought it on amazon 3 years ago, it was on same day shipping. ordered in morning, got it in afternoon.
it retains your settings when power comes back on after power failure.
I use jebao/coral box wherever I can. power head, return pump, skimmer.

How would using a separate timer work though. Because if its not getting power wouldn't the clock on it get messed up?

I had a DP4 that would not keep bubbles out of the lines no matter what I did. I also didnt trust it haha

So, I have been looking around and am considering to start dosing sometime this year. I found these Jebaos on Amazon and after a little research, some people say they've had them for years and never had a problem and others say they're garbage. Does anyone here use them or have experience with them?

Appreciate any advice.
My friend likes their doser pumps. I have never tried them, but I do like their DC return pumps.

the unit has internal battery backup to save the clock and program settings, so when power comes back, it will just continue running the program. The only thing it does not do is daylight saving time clock adjustment, so my dosing just moves an hour after a daylight savings time change.

Exactly. You have to stop and wonder if you have to set up systems as fail safe, if you shouldn't just be buying a higher quality piece of gear.

to OP.
just buy it on amazon. if it does not work out, just return it.

its not like buying from LFS or other online stores where if you buy it, you own it.

I have no idea about the dosing pump.
But about half the jeabo pumps/powerheads I've bought have taken a dump with in 6 months.
A couple right out of the box.
So what ever dosing pumps they copied, maybe they got it right, or maybe they didn't.

I have a DP-4, new in box. Its about a year old. Looks as good as the day I first I opened the box.
I use 2 small Jebao 10 powerheads in my 20g. Set on lowest setting. Turned on and off via an apex. 1 year old and no issues.

I have a jebao DP4. It's not "Bad" but it ain't great either.
I never had a problem with overdoing but had a heck of a time calibrating. Also had a hard time with air in the lines.

The jeabo DP4 is not bad but the Coralbox wifi doser is way better.
