Jebao, is it really "bad?"

I've been using Jaebo dosing and return pump fr two years no problems.

I can't speak to the doser but I did want to share my jabeo experience. I have 4 power heads that I bought brand new about a year and a half ago still working great. I do clean them once a month. Also I have a second hand return pump (cant remember the model) that was running for years before I got it then a year and a half since I got it and it still works great.

The only complaint I have about the ph is that sometimes the "feed" mode turns of early. So for a $40 ph I'm ok with that.

I know 2 ppl that are in my reef community that have the doser. One loves it the other hates it

I will say that the programming on the jebao doser is total garbage. You don't think it is until you use a better one.

Have we sufficiently beat the topic to death yet?

Hey..what salt mix are you using? LOL

I ran a coralbox skimmer on my nano for 2.5 years with no issues. I bought a new jebao pump as a replacement and its still in the box. I have 2 ow-25's running on my 120 for 7 months on pulse mode with no issues. I run 2 tunze 6095's on the back wall. Wanted to see how long the 2 jebaos last vs tunze. Seem to be good pumps for 2@$100 vs 2@$450 for the tunze. Time will tell. I have a 4 head jebao dosing pump still in the box. Went with carx instead.

I had a Jebao 4 head doser. 15 days into use, I came home and pump head 3 was stuck on. Tried everything but couldn’t resolve the problem. Luckily that head was not in use yet so no damage to the tank. I just wouldn’t trust it with something that could kill the tank. And I just purchased a couple wp-60’s two days ago. At least if they die I’m only out flow in the tank.

I run with some Jeabo return pumps. I also use their cross flow pumps, and I have used the doser as well. I don't run the doser right now because I don't need to. I will probably set it back up in the next month or so.

I have their WiFi dosing pump and several flow pumps.
The dosing pump once dosed almost 1500ml of super-concentrated alkalinity solution to my tank, it took at least 2 weeks until my corals recovered from the shock. I thought that was a unit malfunction and turned off the power, was using it to turn on momentarily for a few minutes to manually dose a few ml of the solutions and turning off again in fear that it will malfunction again. And then, after a few days, it happened again: I found that the water in my tank was cloudy and the alkalinity container was about 1000ml less - while the unit was OFF. I then realized that one of the dosing heads leaked when the rollers were in a certain position, and my unit was placed above water level therefore it went into the tank. There are valves on each line to prevent the water from the tank flowing back into the containers, but when I was mounting the unit I didn't figure out that the reverse was possible and the instructions didn't tell me so. I moved the containers slightly below the water surface level in the tank and since then it functions flawlessly since then. Just make sure that the end of the alkalinity tube is above water level in the tank - if it is in water, the alk solution reacts with calcium in the tank, forming calcium carbonate and may clog the pipe. This happened to me twice, and I raised the end of the tube above water - no clogs anymore.

In regard with their DC flow pumps. I have been using them for quite a few years and I am very happy about the price/quality ratio. The older models (WP40) worked for 1-2 years for me. I now have the newer models with wireless synchronization, including one gyre-style pumo, and they work great. With the new sinewave technology they are supposed to work longer, but I only have them for a few months yet. Even if they fail in one year, I am happy for their very low price compared with models from other manufacturers. The only thing I don't like is that I cannot decrease the period of the waves to make it slower than the minimum value built into the controller. In my opinion, making the waves slower would be better.

I had a DCP-5000 that stopped working after a year. I purchased another but if I only get a year out this unit as well, I'll look at getting a higher quality pump.
But then I have heard people got problem with those fancy smancy mps. I got a jebaos for over a year so far still rocking.

Ditched Jebao after receiving a nice shock from their powerheads.
Then again, I know people who have had jebao dosing pumps running for years with little to no issues.
As stated above quality is inconsistent.
IMO - its best to go for the quality item right away as opposed to getting new ‘cheap’ ones every time they break.

I’ve been using jebao pumps for years now. Bought a DP4 3 years ago, and ran fine till the end of 2019. I’ve been ordering mine, from the same eBay seller out of Los Angeles, and haven’t had a problem yet.
Rw8 is my go to nano wave maker.

My DC6000 Jebao return pump is running solid for 4 years nonstop and I have not cleaned it once...
For the price that I paid ($95), I think it was a great deal!

So, I have been looking around and am considering to start dosing sometime this year. I found these Jebaos on Amazon and after a little research, some people say they've had them for years and never had a problem and others say they're garbage. Does anyone here use them or have experience with them?

Appreciate any advice.
I have been using that same dose for 3 years and counting. Love it.

I bought a DP-6 doser three years ago. It was cheap. Now, I only have three of the heads running as the other three have packed up. As you can imagine, when a doser head stops working you don't really know at first, not until you notice that something is wrong in the tank. I made a mistake and I forgot the old saying, "buy cheap, buy twice".
At the same time I bought one of their UV units. It started to 'burn' and was producing smoke after about five months. They refused to replace it or return the money.
I won't buy their stuff again. Others may have had a positive experience with their stuff, but I didn't I'm afraid.

I have used multiple jebao products and ime, all the negative hype created around it isnt justified. They really give more than bang for your buck. 3 years ago started my tank with 2 RW-20's, and man really they are super powerful. I now use 2 gyres and 1 rw-20 on my tank, changed to gyres because i wanted to.
I had jebao Dp-4 for 2 years, but 2 of its heads weren't functioning properly. So i switched to a jebao doser 3.4. I really cant justify a super $$$ dosing pump when these function really fine. I would recommend you to go ahead with the new wifi ones. They are real breeze to work with.

I have used Jebao off and on since they came out. Mostly their powerheads and return pumps. That being said, I would never, ever, trust Jebao with some thing as critical as dosing. All their products eventually fail, as do all reefing products in general. In Jebao's case that failure may come early in a matter of months, or it may come in years, but it will come.

The heads that these cheap doser's use are crap, based on friction of plastic rollers against a smooth motor shaft. Definitely not what I would trust for anything as critical as dosing. I used the same dosing heads myself several years ago in DIY dosing pumps. Ya, they are not good.

If you still choose to go the Jebao route, make sure your dosing containers are below the output level to stop siphoning and have a check valve in each line to stop it from back siphoning. That will at least give you a chance to notice something is wrong as opposed to wiping your tank overnight.

I won’t use Jebao products on any of my aquariums, though I could see using one of their powerheads if I were in a pinch.
I would never risk using one of their Dosers under any circumstance.

I had that exact unit for 4 months, I was going from manual hand dosing to that unit and it was a godsend I used it for 2 part, and used the 4th head to do some simple daily top off of RO water to my quarantine tank 3rd pump was unused. Worked great for about 4 months, then after I started noticing some coral tissue loss I found the unit mostly dead, screen would light up, but pumps wouldn't run, screen menus and buttons wouldn't work. I contacted the amazon vendor they offered to replace the unit with another if i shipped it back to them, unfortunately that was 2 days before a week long beach vacation so I broke down an drove a hour to pickup a Neptune DOS to integrate with my Apex. That being said, the DOS is a vastly superior unit, scheduling and adjusting it via web interface is awesome, the pump itself works better as well. But honestly for a beginner the Jebao was fine for me, you need to monitor it more, and be aware of it, I would have been happier had mine lasted longer, I probably would have bought a DOS after a year or two anyway, but as a starter doser, it was just fine.

I just bought this exact doser. Getting it on Tuesday. I went economical, because [as some would call this being cheap], I have seen just as many posts of the expensive dosers failing. I take negative comments with a grain of salt, because you never know if the failure was an actual defective unit or operator-failure. Good luck!

The only place the Jebao is call I knock-off is here in the USA .. I have friends over sea China , Japan, and they call the mp40/10 a knock off .. so it all depends on where you at . And tbh mp40 are made in China . You pay more bcoz the agency like UL have to put they sticker on everything the comes to the USA . All my pumps/& power head are Jebao and my doser too . Never had any problems and my alk /cal/mag stay the same . So in my opinion they are real good .
