So I'm currently in the process of drilling, plumbing and setting up my first saltwater tank (40g Breeder). I have some AC powerheads I was gonna use on it but would like to just get some controllable ones. I am on a budget (with all this stuff going on I need to be smart about my money).
I've been looking at the Jebao line up. I like the slw and OWs.

Question is, what would be the best purchase of powerhead for my tank? How many? Any other reasonably priced powerheads are also ok.

(Looking to keep soft and LPS since it's my first time at all of this)

Ive used them in the past, they wont last forever however. I got about a year out of one of mine, and almost 3 out of the other. I have a set in my 220 on one side that are approaching 2 years of use.

I have used them, and they are fine. They are not the longest lasting power head, but for a controllable dc, you will be hard pressed to find one cheaper. I would probably go with two in that tank

Which one? The SLW-10 or the OW?

We are using x2 OW-50's running at 25% on our 300gal. I would recommend using two (regardless of brand) for redundancy. They have been fine for over a year with minimal cleaning.

At 1/6th the price of other brands, it was an easy choice.

I think Jebao is pretty decent quality wise. I mean nothing showed up to my house broken (cough, ecotech g5 cracked housing, cough).

I have the crossflow 150 on my 180g tank and it works great. Needs cleaning on a regular basis to maintain flow, but that's an issue most gyre pumps have.

I would go with two of the slw-10 or 20's in your situation. Leaning toward the 10's because you don't want to oversize the pump and run it a low percentages constantly.

I would choose the SLW. I had the OW and just made the switch to the SLW. The flow on the OW was too focused for my reef, the SLW gives much wider flow range. For a 40 breeder I would use two SLW10's. One on each side of the tank facing eachother on random mode.

Cant go wrong with Jebao if your on a budget, been running mine for about 3yrs and only lost one to failure.I am currently running 3 from the SW series.

Good info to know, thanks. Have had a OW-10 running great on my tank for over a year & was planning on adding another. My new tank is much wider so maybe I'll look into the SLW series.
