The jebao pump (dcp 10000 I think ) was supposed to be 7" long. If I screw on the inlet nozzle, it is closer to 8 or a hair over. My chamber is just under 8. If I angle the pump, and go in diagonal, I can get it in. The inlet sticks out into the previous chamber (water flows under into the pump chamber). This chamber has 4 sheets of "noodles" (bashsea has these black plastic noodly sheets before the pump chamber).

Question is, is it okay for the inlet nozzle to stick into the other chamber? Or should I/can I just not use an inlet nozzle to suck water in and then out the top? Either way there is no strainer for water being sucked in. Came with one but way too long to use it. Should I have my hubby cut it shorter?

The noodle sheets will keep large things out I think and I'm thinking if I add snails to the fuge, I should put an egg crate cover over it.

If I go without the nozzle sticking into the next chamber, just a big opening for the inlet, I could cut a piece of gutter mesh or egg crate to fit inside the inlet (without the inlet nozzle) to keep large stuff out.

opinions? Am I worrying over nothing?

The nozzle piece is usually meant for running an intake tube to the pump and having it run outside of a tank, if that's what you're referring to. You can run the pump without it with no issues but as you said I would look into installing some sort of mess or screen over the intake to keep snails out.

thanks @nautical_nathaniel Here are some pics of what I am working with. With the wall of black noodles, does that act like a screen? Or do I need to make one out of either gutter mesh or egg crate in case a snail gets inside by going over the baffles (will make a crate cover for the fuge section

return chamber. where the blue baffle ends you can see the "wall" of black plastic "noodles". This is where water flows into chamber
Or do I just need to get a slightly smaller pump

pump in chamber without nozzle now that I know I do not need. Is that enough room for the pump to intake water?

I run my Vectra with no inlet cover and havent had any issues with snails, limpets or anything else making its way through there. It should be plenty of room for the pump to function without issues as well. Its probably 1.5" off the front wall, or there abouts.

Is it quiet? I'm considering one. But it's in my bedroom so noise matters
I don't ever hear it. At all. Have it running at about 50 percent. Loving it so far. And the eflux wavemakers are silent as well.
