Arrived home on Saturday to the tank looking a little cloudy. After a closer look I noticed that my Jebao SLW-10 wasn't running, looked around the back of the tank to the controller and see this... I tried unplugging everything multiple times, it would work for 30 seconds to a minute and then go back to this and turn off.

I quickly ordered a replacement that arrived last night and I'm planning to put it in the tank later this morning. I'm hoping I just got unlucky and received a bad unit but from the Amazon reviews it seems like this may be a common problem. Anyone know whats going on, I assume this isn't something that I can fix.

I read some posts about people avoiding the W1 / W2 modes due to possibly causing more wear and tear on the cheap wavemaker, should I just run the new one on continuous to be safe of did I most likely just get a bad unit?

Its the crapshoot of owning a jebao. You may have a bad controller or a bad powerhead. Since you ordered a replacement, you can swap the controller and powerhead with your replacement to determine what went bad. My bet is the controller.

W2 mode is pretty much all I use on mine. luckily, I haven't had this issue yet.

Pull apart and check for obstructions. Whenever mine have froze, it's because a snail or crabshell got stuck but work normally after freeing the shell and a hard reset. Maybe this isn't your issue if it's working for 30s after unplugging though.

Thats the same that happened to me, and I'm pretty sure its the same unit. Mine only lasted 2 months, I'll never buy that brand again.

I did a bit of research into jebeo and aparently the SOW ones are the better builds.

I have JEBAO SOW-15 and so far it's been mostly pretty good and way more quiet then my maxpect gyre!

Apparently the jebao return pumps ain't bad either, but I guess it really depends. Like everything there can always be manufacturing issues and some people just get very unlucky
