Anyone know the shelf life on these? Mine is 5 months old but has died 2x in the last few days. I do regular cleanings with citric acid.

1st time it started again after I cleaned it. 2nd time I unplugged it & it started but now makes a soft rattling noise I can’t make out.

Should I put it out if it’s misery?

Rattling noise makes me think it's missing a ceramic bearing. Is all the parts there?

From what I can tell.. I haven’t completely taken the housing apart nor seen anything in my tank that resembles a ball bearing.

It would be a ceramic ring. There's two, one on each end of the impeller.

I'd take the cage off and remove the impeller and soak all parts to clean them again. Run a soft brush down where the impeller goes to clean that as well. Rinse and try it again.
