Jebao Wavemaker Magnet installation, what is this disc?

Probably a dumb question, but I just picked up a new Jebao wavemaker (SOW-15).
It came with a little white disc situated between the two magnets. Is this just to protect the magnets before install?
Or am I supposed to put this disc between one of the magnets and the glass? It seems unnecessary and the magnet sticks fine with or without the disc...
What is it for and do I need it on my tank?

I believe it’s just to make it easier to separate the magnets initially. You don’t need it for mounting to the glass though. Although you could use it if you find your glass thickness is too thin and it’s difficult to remove your pump for maintenance.

It’s just a spacer for boxing and separating the magnets before install. They used to use just a cardboard square before.
