I went to wp40 and wp25's about 8 months ago. One of the wp40's just gave out. Apparently from what I'm reading the warranty is useless due to shipping expenses or whatever.

I cleaned up the pump and impeller and it fired right back up like it was turbocharged. For all of about 10 minutes. If I unplug it and plug it back in it starts up again for about 10 minutes each time. Think this is an impeller issue or something a new controller might fix? The impeller looked okay to me but what do I know? I see reefbreeders offers replacement controllers for $14.99.

I remember seeing someone with a similar situation... I can't find the source for the life of me. I do remember it was an external electrical issue. i.e. the control box or the power source. Sorry this is not an exact answer, but hopefully it'll keep you from tearing it apart and possibly causing damage that could've been avoided.

I had the same experience as you. Fortunately FishStreet honored the warranty and sent me a new power head. I think the shipping was about 20 bucks but it has worked ever since. I have since moved up to a pair of RW-20s which seem to be a more reliable build.

To see if it is controller switch between the two 40's.

Yes I plan to do that, I just haven't got to it yet since its a pain to get to all that stuff. Cons of a3 got width tank. Not too mention a little uncomfortable just being under it. Lol

Just to update I swapped controllers and had the same results. Then I swapped impellers and had the same results. so the malfunction is in the pump itself.

Be careful switching controllers and unplugging and re plugging in the power to the controller. They arc and I think it messed up mine after I did it a few times. I had 2x WP40s. One starting stalling as you had happen. I kept plugging and unplugging it and it would usually last a few days but it got less and less until it was totally dead. Then I thought, let's rule out the power supply. Plugged it into my 2nd controller and that pump got toasted. So They were both dead within minutes of each other...YAY! I got about 2 years out of them, so I'm not super ****** but sucks that they can be that touchy. I have 2x RW15s now, hoping the improvements last the test of time. My WPs were the original version controller.

I think the motor only lasts so long in the stalled state before screwing up the power supply, controller, or the motor itself.

I seem to be having the same issues.
I will be switching to another brand when my last spare quits just like all others have.
