The jebao brand is much more affordable and works very similar to vortech. The vortech brand works extremely well, controller is very easy to navigate and adjust. It all depends on what you want your power head to do for your tank and budget.

But do they have the modes like vortech have? For example reef mode?

Yes, very similar modes and wireless communication like the Vortech's plus directional capabilities that Vortech's do not. Still at 1/3 to 1/4 the price, don't know about noise levels now with the new Quiet Drive upgrade. I have 2 RW-15's and will be adding a RW-4, two of the three locations would not even work with a Vortech unidirectional flow.

Cheers, Todd

one thing i will say is my rw20s are loud, but in all fairness i just put them in today. but I have a rw8 aswell and it is silent and It will rock a 100 gallons easy.

I've compared the jebao's and vortech in terms of noise and overall usage - both have their strengths. But what won out for me was that I found the Jebao's to be quieter (signigficantly) and obviously the price difference was very attractive. The ability to change direction of the Jebao's was really nice too as I would not be able to use certain locations in my tank. That said, the Vortex have nice modes that the Jebao's don't have, their controler is easy to use and overall looks are much better. But those benefits to the Votech's was not enough to sway me to pay that steep price. As for noise reduction, the new QuietDrives will help them out, but I'm not sure that they will be quieter than the Jebao's. The new flow rates from the Vortech's is probably close to what the Jebao's have now that they've change their design, so I don't see an advantage either direction you go. (Just to throw in my bias - think of the extra corals you could buy with the savings you'll get if you go with the Jebao's instead......:-) or a nice Watanabe Angel......)

What about in terms of durability, I have heard that the Jebao pumps have a poor track record. Is this true?

to be honest, I've read and heard the same about Vortech's. As for the Jebao's I can only speak from my experience and half a dozen people I know personally and none of us have had an issue. I've been running an RS for almost a year non stop with no issues and an wp for 2 yrs with no issues. They do break down, like any other brand or mechanical piece, but I haven't experienced it yet. Even the Koralia's I had in the past never broke down on me, despite their reputation for sudden reversing of their flow. I think it's safe to say, that both brands have a good overall track record.

All depends on who you ask... I've been rocking a wp40 for 2 years and just with regular maintenance cleaning, nothing has went wrong. The same goes for the other wp40 I've had for a year, the rw15 I've have for 6 months, also a mp10 for a year. None of them have had any problems for me.

The RW series has been my favorite, the more open design helps out that narrow flow from the wp series.

Like any other pump, if you keep it clean and regularly maintain it, it will last a lot longer. I am very happy with my vortech, but I am equally as happy with my jebao power heads.

Jebao pumps have an "Else" mode, which acts like a reef stream that continually changes flow pattern, like the reef crest mode of vortechs, just not as advanced.

Does anybody know if you can submerge the external magnet of the Jebao, like in an overflow? It would also allow for better placement.
I know the Vortech can't do this.

Sorry to hijack the thread.

I believe you can they're just like the Koralia magnet I have in the overflow
