Looking for a species ID on photo 3!
Right. So. We had a few of these about 6 months ago:

Pretty standard for a new tank, didn't think much of it. Then the hydroid swarm began. I assumed it was a different stage in their life cycle. Here's the hydroid rock:

For a quick count, plus or minus several thousand or so. Which is fine, they pulse interestingly and eat a ton of baby brine shrimp. And now here we have this tiny beast. I have never seen anything colored like this little guy:

The picture quality is dismal (and he looks a bit depressed...) he appears to have four curled oral arms, but I haven't examined hin that thoroughly. He's roughly 7 mm in bell diameter. I've been treating the tank for cyano by reducing the photoperiod, but honestly I think the hydroid carpet has been a more effective method of tempering it.
I'd love to know what species it is and perhaps how big they get. Are these all different life stages, or all different species? Any and all information is great! It appears to act a bit like an upside-down jellyfish, but that may only be because it's a rectangular tank and he's mushed against the glass.

The folks at the Shedd think it looks like a young upside down jelly. I've seen a few with blue tentacles, but the blue bell streaks are new to me! I can't wait to see how he grows.

"Thank you for reaching out to Shedd Aquarium!

This could potentially be a young upside down jellyfish: Cassiopeia sp.

They are photosynthetic. The “paddle” tentacles are where they store the algae that grows inside of them.

Their polyp stage can be found on live rock, macroalgae (like the caulerpa in that photo) or corals that are brought in from the wild for hobby aquariums. So sometimes they show up unexpectedly in people’s home aquariums."

Very cool .

there was a lfs close to me a few years ago selling upside down jellies .
I thought about it ….. are they similar to keeping anemones ?

I have no idea! My only nem's a rock flower, and the accidental jellies just so happen to be doing extremely well in my dwarf seahorse tank (which is running a cheap $20 black box freshwater light off Amazon since it only needed to grow caulerpa...)
