How long did it take to begin growing? Hard to believe that your nub grew into that colony.

All depends on how its being cared for. I moved mine around several times before I said forget it I will place it in one spot and never moved it again. Started growing upward about 4 months into it

Is there a consensus on the species of the Jason Fox flame? I think it looks like A. appressa maybe?

Trait that really jumps out at me on the JF flames I have seen and A. appressa is the way the Incipient axials curve upwards close the the main branch almost like a saguaro cactus.

Thoughts ? structural differences or similarities you see? other species that should be mentioned as a possibility?

The tips of those axials are super weird, their edges are sharp and not rounded like most I have seen, some of them look deformed a bit, have any nippers in your tank? maybe its just certain lighting?

Other species I have seen similarities to the JF
flame in addition to A. appressa are - A. willsae, A. granulosa and A. paniculata

A. appressa still remains my best guess.

Opinions? thoughts? other ideas?

Good eyes. Tips are deformed because colony is growing 10-12 inches from MP60 Reef crest at 90 percent. Extreme flow.

Anyone agree on A. appressa? disagree?

Mine is still a brown turd. It’s slowly encrusting it’s base now though, and tips are getting a tiny bit of yellow back.

Is it normal for this coral to brown out, go dormant when new?

You seem to know your Acros too, and you might be right on the ARC being donei, I keep scratching my head on that one.

How do you feel about JF Raspberry blast possibly being A. willsae?
