So I recently came across a great deal on these but haven't heard much about their hardiness and growth rate. Anyone have any experience with best placement and flow? My tank does terrible with smooth skin acros but the WD and Blue Matrix are doing great with polyp extension. Basically should I pull the trigger on this and hope it pays itself off in the future? Thanks

I would say if your looking to do it for it to pay its self out that could work but they are coming down in price. You should buy it if you like it...... They seem to be a fast grower . Ive seen colonies gown from a frag many times and they must be hardy as I've never heard anyone complaining about them. I don't know about placement or flow but i know it can take some time to get it to pull out the pink color

Not really interested in making money off it, more so paying itself off so I can chalk it as an investment to the other half. Stuck between a JF and an OG bounce

lol both are really cool I want them both. I have HW nub that I hope makes it. ....struggling a bit with my SPS at the moment.. but i think I'm turning the corner...If I find a OG bounce at the right price I will get one too..Its amazing that after this long the OG bounce is still pulling the price it is...both I'm sure will get your money back so don't worry... no matter what you chose...if you tank is doing great with a WD then my choice would be the HW as mushrooms are not to hard to keep ... and you can get one later ..just my two cents

Yeah I struggle with SPS sans tenuis and Mille's. I have a Sunkist bounce that has doubled in size since I bought it but mushrooms aren't exactly the most appealing to me. A HW colony can be jaw dropping

My homewrecker has been astoundingingly resilient. It's survived a bleaching, followed by 6 months in sub-optimal par conditions (~100-150PAR), alk swings, and tank crashes. Granted, it never grew during these periods of turmoil, it just browned out and held steady.

It has done best where it is now placed. I have it under approximately 350-400 PAR, exposed to high flow rates as well. Over the past 3 months, it has colored back up and has grown quite a bit.

The colors, especially in online pictures, can be misleading in my experience. My HW absolutely glows under actinic lighting (left), but is rather bland under 12k lighting (right).

must be why jason runs all blues all day long. looks stunning in blue light tho

It's an absolute show stopper under actinic lights. Under my daylight spectrum, I could easily pass over it without recognizing it as anything special.

i completely agree. im still looking for a good deal on one. its the last piece ill be adding to my collection but i refuse spend $500 on a 1/2" nub

In my experience, Tenuis tend to be pretty hardy and decent growers. The HW looks great in SOME systems. Others it looks pretty average. But, that's true for all SPS. They morph colors under different conditions and that's just how it goes. Try to replicate the system from which it came if you want similar results;)

the only way I can express it to someone that hasn't seen one is that it is one of the only corals that is as color-saturated in person as it is photo-saturated online under actinic lighting.

I would save my money for something that is actually a rare color pattern for that type of acro, or something that actually grows slow enough to warrant that price tag. Plus there are SOOOOOOooooo many beautiful tennis in different colors out there that are just stunning under daylights, also blue light...

But if it's one of your I have to have it acros go for it :)

If not the HW, does someone have showpiece coral they would recommend? I like the OG bounce but I already have a sunkist and want something a little different.

I agree. And like everything else it will come down in price. I remember going to reef-a-palooza 2014 and the wd was going for $500ish. This past week reef-a-palooza wd was averaging $100 but I saw as low as $80.

There’s so many to choose from. I personally love a nice frag of Pink Floyd or asd Mille. Just colors that aren’t the red or green that you see everywhere

Acros? What kind of lights do you have? Do you need no-tricks-awesome color, or do you want to black-light them like a WWC or Vivid colony?

If no-tricks, then look to the old-school classics that everybody loves. True GARF Bonsai is a fan-favorite in my house. Red Devil nasuta. Christmas Mirabilis is a beautiful red/green. Palmers Blue Millepora. A good Rose/Pink millepora with some electric sheen (some have them and some do not).

If you are LED and like the WWC and Vivid look, then home wrecker is for you. Confetti. WD, like you have.

It is too bad that you cannot do smoothies - this makes me think that you might have LEDs... if so you are not alone... while not impossible to do smoothies with LEDs, many, many struggle.

BTW - you will not make any money on this... maybe, but probably not. If you wanted to, you should have been in at the beginning. The market quickly saturates with these corals since 1). they are easy to grow and 2). the people who will pay high dollar for a trick-coral are real, but a small percentage of the market. ...so the people who want them and will pay get them quickly/first and then the price drops.

There are people around me selling WD for $50 for 1/2 frags. ...the local market is saturated with the clientele that want this coral... they all have it.
