I have a JF Rainbow Monti and it is loosing its color and going brown. Do I need to move it up or move it down. I run Radions.

My Params are

alk 9.1
cal 400
pH 7.9
Mg 1350
NO3 5
PO4 .04
Temp 78

Po4's are high and should be .02ppm or lower. What settings are your lights at and are you dosing any trace elements? What salt are you using?

I do a 10% water change every week religiously using HW Marinemix salt. I don't dose any trace but do dose BRS 2 part. My lights peak at 42% intensity

Phosphates are not too high IMO. Also Rainbow Monti's need alot of light to keep their color IME.

Try giving it more light

I have mine high up in my tank and I run 2 Gen 3 PRO'S. Mine looks great and growing fast.

Alk 8.3 cal 450 mag 1350 nit 5 phos .04 PH 7.9-8.0

Po4 definitely not too high. Mine has climbed as high as 0.1+ and the rainbow monti kept its color just fine. I've seen them perfectly colorful on the sandbed in others tanks as well. It's one of those corals that can turn brown in a hurry if you change something or move it and take forever to bounce back

Also...as they get larger, and the polyps start to age, they transition from red to green, that in between time can start making them look an olive drab brownish color and they are in between red and green

You're parameters look fine. Odd. Possibly a lighting issue. try moving it around.

Mine have a tendency of browning out for weeks to months on end if they're moved. Just know they can tolerate (and often show their best colors under) an insane amount of light. Surface level is not unreasonable. But that being said I've seen them acclimated and good looking sandbed level as well so if you move it I suggest only one or two moves before just leaving it otherwise it'll never get settled

So I moved it up and am now blasting it with light. I am starting to get some yellow and red polyps back. Thanks for the help guys
