Jmay's 55 gallon reef!

Here is my 55 gallon reef. Just a precursor, I made a newbie mistake. Lol. Before I put water in my tank, I put it way too close to the wall. Now I have to wait for a new stand before I can put my protein skimmer on the back.

I am running 4 HO T5 lights 1 actinic (as soon as this semester is over ill have 2 actinics, FINALLY.) I have 1 standard HOB filter running just for some water movement. I also have a Reef Octopus BH-100, which I love and would suggest to anyone. It's so quiet!!! My stock is as follows:
-1 ocellaris clown
-2 blue green chromis (planning on filling out the school eventually)
-1 six line wrasse (does a heck of a job clearing bristle worms!)
-1 juvi engineer goby (I can't wait for his stripes to turn! )
-2 emerald crabs
-1 porcelain crab
-1 brittle star
-About 40 hermit crabs
-Kenya trees
-Hammer coral
-Assorted polyps(I've never tried to figure out what they are for some reason)
-Zoanthids
-Assorted mushrooms
-Pumping xenias

I've also been working on the cyano bacteria. It's almost all gone now due to increased flow.

I forgot to mention, I'm running 2 800 gph wave makers.

Sounds like a nice set up. Careful with the wrasse, mine jumped. Also chromis arent the greatest schooling fish because they sometimes attack each other.

chromis are peacefull most of the time, I have 3 that have learned to tolorate each other, but I have had schools up to 11.

Thank you everyone! I really appreciate the compliments. I feel like I still have a lot of progress to make.

The size of my tank is a little limiting as far as how many chromis I can have. I'm think 3-5 of them. I'm also wanting to add a firefish. I've been waiting until I get a lid for that one. Lol. It's been a little difficult as my tank has no center brace. I'm going to have to make either a brace or a lid, I think.

Anyone know what these white spots are on my polyps?

Could it be snail eggs? Do any of your fish have white spots on them?

They've been there a while. I thought they might be eggs but they're not going away. All of my fish seem fine no spots or anything there and it is only affecting my polyps, nothing else. Could it be a parasite or fungus?

Try taking a q-tip and gently wiping a spot off. Look at it under a magnifying glass. Hard to say from the pics. My snails lay eggs all over the glass and rocks. I leave them on the rocks but scrape them off the glass. My dwarf cerith snails eggs are very small.

Hmm. Thanks!! I did some googling and they do look like cerith eggs, but I think the hermit crabs wiped out my snail population a while back. Can the ceriths live I the sand? Should the polyps out of the tank to swab them?

Ceriths do bury themselves in the sand, their mainly nocturnal. If your palythoas don't retract when you pull them out of the water, I would pull them out to do it. See if their cotton like or calcerous.

I thought that was right. I couldn't remember. I think they would stay open enough since most of the spots aren't on the polyp itself. Thanks for all your help! I'll let you know what I figure out on the texture.
