Joann's 60g cube...a work in slow progress

Didn't get my unicorn fur. Guess I'll just have to be satisfied with these. :) The light is heavier than I expected for its size.

Spent forever at Home Depot with an awesome sales associate named Brandon figuring out how to diy mount this under my hood. I wanted it simple and easily removable and the only tools I own are a power drill and a couple of screw drivers and a mallet. I think tomorrow I'll get some pliers to close one side of each s hook.

I was worried it wouldn't be enough light. Especially since I can't mount very high above the water because of my canopy. But it looks like plenty of coverage to me.

Looks good.

If you need some extra height inside the canopy, they sell regular screws the same size as the hooks.

Drilled through the canopy and slid a washer on the screw and tightened directly to my 52's. Same concept, just no s hooks.

Grrr the controller is stuck in firmware update mode and I can't call support till tomorrow. Guess I won't get to play with them tonight. :(

Ok it took multiple tries but I got the firmware updated. Played with the lights for a little while. And then turned them off because I'm still cycling. I've got shiny new lights and I can't even use them yet. :(

Ammonia's going down, nitrite and nitrate are going up. And still the waiting continues... But this is good right?. I should probably specify that I'm cycling a new tank.

Just plugged my skimmer in to try it out and... Nothing! The pump didn't even try to come on. Guess I know why the seller included it in such a great deal. :(

Take the pump of the skimmer and soak it for. 24 hrs. In a strong solution of vinegar. And water

It worked! I put the pump back together this morning and it seems to be working fine now. Thank you.

Now another question...when I turned it on I got a major blizzard of micro bubbles. How do I stop that? I had to shut it back off for now because it dropped the water level in my return area way down. So I'm making up some more water to bring my water level up a bit. Once I get the water level up do you think that will help with the micro bubbles?

Lol never mind I got it. Getting the water level back up solved the problem.

I have to say I'm very happy with how quiet the skimmer is. I've been kind of scared to fire it up because I was afraid that it would be really loud and/or that water would end up spraying everywhere. But so far there's no flying water and I don't hear it running at all.

Cool when I clean my skimmer it does that all the time creates microbubbles for about 2 hrs. Make sure your water level in sump stays constant and then start running it in. I like dark skimate and consistency of molases
