John at Advanced Acrylics

John built me a 48x20x10 frag tank and it is absolutely amazing. Price was very fair and the craftsmanship was outstanding. Polished rounded corners and crystal clear seams all made with 3/4" acrylic and a black bottom. I am tempted to make this into a DT as it is that beautiful.

any contact info for him? I have been trying to get in contact with him but have received no answer at the email I found
 
I figured I would update this with some unfortunate negative feedback about John. I was supposed to also get a photo box from him, but it did not ship, but was paid for. I never heard back from him after he said it was supposed to ship, that was 3 weeks ago. He ignores all email, phone calls and text messages.

Unfortunately this was the way he was through the entire transaction, just the worst possible customer service and communication you could ever imagine. I did finally get my tank and it is amazing construction and quality, but it doesnt justify the awful customer service he gives you. If i knew how he would have been, I would have never used him and I will never use him again, his communication is that bad and it becomes extremely frustrating.

Just because he does incredible work, does not give him the right to ignore your messages and then screw you out of an item.

Wow, that's no fun. Sorry about the loss :( My transaction with him was smooth, though he did ask me to make payment as a gift, which I never do, so I guess I was lucky.

Wow thats too bad. If a guy is this bad up front wait till there is a problem. Too bad this hobby could use a few more tank builders out there.

Unfortunately, John at Advanced Acrylics continues to give EXTREMELY Bad service!

I have just recently received a custom cube tank I ordered from John on January 12, 2012.
At the time of the order, he gave me shipping date of 3 weeks. I let it go for a while, all the time encouraging him to give me updates so I would not be left feeling like I had been taken to the cleaners after paying him up front.
Finally, I got him to ship the tank and received it 5 weeks after after he said I would receive it.
Yes, it does truely have some beautiful rounded corners. That's about the only positive thing I can say about it.
I asked (and have documented by email) that he place an overflow box in one corner and use dark acrylic on all sides because the tank would not be against the wall, but would be in the middle of the room and we would be looking in from all 4 sides. I did not want to have to look into the overflow box (or adjacent dry box with electrical wiring) from the outside of the tank.
Imagine my suprise, when I received the tank, with the overflow box in the corner, completely visible from the outside of the tank, no dark acrylic to block my view.
He said he would do eurobracing around the top of the tank, which he did, however, he stopped the eurobracing at the overflow box, so it looks like he forgot to finish it, guess I will not be able to display the tank with no hood, it looks like some amature built it!
I'm pretty sure I could have built something that looked better myself, and that is not saying much.
Then, with two 1" bulkheads for water going out and two 3/4" returns, the overflow box has teeth that are space out so much, that there are only 14 slots, I'm pretty sure there is no way I can get enough water to go over the overflow the way it is built now.
Of course John is ignoring my attempts to contact him now.
So, the beautiful new tank I was so excited about is a disaster, and I'm left to drive 60 miles the nearest acrylic store to buy addition materials myself and attempt to fix the mess he made the best I can.
Of course, it will look aweful and I will never be able to sell it to anyone if I ever decide to make a change.
My advice.... STAY AWAY FROM ADVANCED ACRYlICS!!!
 
I actually just picked up my custom sump and ATO reservoir from John. It was some of the best service I received from any vendor. Here's the thread I just posted regarding my experience with John and Advance Acrylics.

Believe it or not, I was the only one delaying my build. From the time I gave John the go ahead on my dimensions, He had the complete sump and ATO res built in about a day. I talked to him Wednesday night of this week with the final details, he built it yesterday, and I picked it up this morning. A+ to John.
 
Nice thread didn't even see this one when 1st posted that new frag tank is definetly sweet lookin and even sweetier when lookin from top down
 
I have ordered 1 frag tank a sump and AIO cube from him before. His communication is down right horrible. His shipping dates are usually delayed a week to a health problem or material is on back order. He tried to get me to pay as gift which I did not. The sump is the best one. His delivery time said 7-10 days. I told him I needed it in 10 days. A week went by and no word of shipping. I messaged him and he said ow no 14 days for delivery. If you want it in 10 that is 30 more dollars for rush service. So I paid the 30 more and will never do business with him again.
