John's Fluval Evo 13.5

That sucks! If you’re ever in that position again, float frozen water bottles in your tank. Place Fans blowing across the water surface too.
I was putting in ziplock bags of ice, but used it all up. Everything looked ok even when it got above 90, so I didn't worry too much, which was obviously a mistake. It was the next day when everything started to die. I feel really stupid now. Live and learn, I guess.

Something of a miracle has happened! Over the last couple of days my melting away, completely closed for weeks, Yellow Brick Road zoas are starting to open. They are smaller and all yellow, even though they are supposed to be red and blue, but I'm sure that will come back after some time in the light. A small victory

The light on the tank is not very good, so I decided to upgrade to the Fluval Marine 3.0 led. I mainly got this one because it fits into the same slot as the stock light. It's Bluetooth controlled with custom schedules, etc. like so many other new lights. It's a lot better, but still not fabulous. I just really want to keep the top on!

What size is this Fluval led I thought the smallest one in that range was 24 inches?

Here it is:
Thanks so much that size is very hard to find in UK but your post made me go on the hunt to find it, I’ve been looking for weeks for a light to change on this evo as the stock light is too white for my liking and I wanted to keep the lid like you mostly to avoid too much evaporation so I’m so glad I saw your thread! I live these lights I have them in the bigger size . When I bought them people said you won’t get growth they won’t support anemones etc they were sooo wrong ! Everything I have has rampant growth . I love the spectrum and controllability of the lights I don’t think you can do better for the price,

I'm glad you found it. It is not required to use it, but you will probably want to cut or grind a piece of plastic off only one side to make it sits completely level. See the thin piece (only the thin strip that actually hangs down over the outside edge of the tank) - that should be removed or it will be at a bit of an angle on the lid.

Also, look at this picture I saw someone using the light posted on Facebook to show that it works really well:

I bought two bottles of copepods and they just arrived. I need to replace what I had and this is a mix of 7 types, so hopefully some of them will eat dinos when they inevitably try to return.

That’s an awsome looking tank I would love to know his settings or yours if your happy with them?

I wish that were my tank! I put that picture up as a reply to show someone a tank that was being kept with the light I have on mine.

It turns out that the formerly dead and melting Utter Chaos were only mostly dead. They decided to make a comeback and open this week. There are plenty of empty areas where polyps are gone, but I certainly won't complain.

What settings do you have?

Sorry I missed answering that the first time. The cyan, blue and purple are at 100%. The white is at 70% and the pink is at 60%. I just guessed at the levels, but somewhere I saw that WWC said they have a fairly quick ramp up to full lights and a short lighting reduction in the middle of the day to give the coral a break from the full strength lights, so this is what I did.
I also added a blue strip light (on page 2 of my build thread) that I turn on about half an hour after the main lights are on and turn off about half an hour before the main light go off. It was gone from Amazon for a while and just got put back up - that's why it only has a couple of reviews. However, they no longer sell the plug for it so they are useless to buy.

Would you mind letting me know what settings you run on the marine 3? I just picked one up and trying to figure out also.

hope everything/tank is going good! don't hesitate, hit me up if you need anything, I also have some zoa frags you might want (rastas and utter chaos) but still have lots of sps I am trying to give away local!!

They are not very scientific. The cyan, blue and purple are at 100%. The white is at 70% and the pink is at 60%. Any updates?
I had struggled with dinos for a long time and after my last post I did everything recommended, including two UV filters and Dino X, but it didn't do the job. I decided to basically start over. I took all the zoas off of the big rock and made a bunch of frags. Then I boiled the rocks. I cleaned the tank and let it dry for a few days and I bought new sand. I cleaned the few frags I had with straight H2O2 thinking the strong would survive and the others would die for the cause and then kept them in a bare tank with the UV filters. After a week I put it back together and three days later the dinos started showing up on the glass. Dinos from hell. I am running it on just blues for now to stop them from getting a foothold. Not sure what I will do next. Maybe get some gulf live rock (I can get it locally) to load up the tank with competitors. In the mean time I ended up starting a new tank to collect frags for when this tank was in better shape and they grew too much and now that has turned into a coral tank.
