JsReefs 150g LUNA REEF Customs Build

Hello everyone, it’s time to officially introduce myself to the R2R community by starting a build thread! I’m very excited to share this with you as this will be my first custom aquarium build. [emoji108]

So here’s the plan:

The tank dimensions will be 48x30x24, which should be approximately 150 gallons, made by Luna Reef Customs. (More or the builder to come.)

I will be using a T-Slot Aluminum stand made by FramingTech and plan to wrap it with a furniture grade panel of some sort.

For the filtration I’ve decided to do something a little different. I’m going to attempt to combine a display refugium on the front portion with a rear sump to house the protein skimmer and any other mechanical filtration that I decide to use in the future. Hopefully the picture explains it better than me. Lol!

I’m looking for to sharing every step with you by I’ll stop here for now. I’ll be giving updates and more information as the build progresses. Here are a few pics of the initial draft plans.

The tank will be constructed from 1/2 inch acrylic. As a result we will be adding a brace on the top for added support. As for the overflow I wanted to have a peninsula look but didn’t want the plumbing on the outside because of how the tank will be displayed. We decided to do a corner overflow along the right side panel to keep the back view open as much as possible. Doing it this way also leaves me open to have viewing from all four sides. We’ll see how it goes when we get to the aquascape.

Here’s my idea for plumbing. I’d like to have two 1” drains and one 3/4” return line. The 3/4 retur will also have a 3/4 manifold to support any future needs. So my thought was to run a 1” return line from the pump and reduce it down to 3/4 splitting to it the manifold and return. I plan to run the herbie method. Hopefully plan A works and I won’t need a plan B.
